Also regarding the mono 45 appearance, what are the differences between that and the LP version?

Stopped by a corner record shop and picked up a nice 45 of this today...

Don't forget that great flipside "Requiem For the Masses"!
When E! reran the Smothers Brothers show I saw an episode where they did both tunes. |

I agree that "Requiem For The Masses" is a superb "B-side," perhaps one of the top B-sides of the 60s. It was great that it was included on The Association's Greatest Hits. When I was growing up in northern New Jersey, the original WOR-FM used to play it all the time (primarily by Scott Muni and Rosko) - perhaps even more than "Never My Love," also a great A-side.
The Association's album "Insight Out" is wonderful and contains both songs. |

I never "got" Requiem. Back in '67 a friend of mine told me he'd heard that the flip of NML was supposed to have been the hit side (though my promo copy indicates otherwise) so we gave it a listen. Neither of us particularly liked it. Admittedly, I've never been into protest or deep message songs, but to me RFTM was overblown & pretentious. YMMV.

Decided to revisit this one to recreate a mono edit. Was
there a specific edit or edits? Sounds to me like an early fade. |

I agree-more of a mix/early fade difference than an edit.

I took the mono version from Insight
Out and faded it early to 2:52. Seemed to match my 45. Now, if I could only find "Everything That Touches You" in mono. I think it may be on a UK release, Birthday, mono release. |
