I have the UK 45 (Warner Bros. K 17582) - it runs 3.55. This version fades in about 0.5 - 1.5 second before any of my CD's with '45 length' do (they differ slightly). It also fades out 1 - 2 second before the CD's. At the very start there is a wind blowing (I think). Can anyone tell me if the US 45 also have this noise near the beginning?

The US dj promo does have the wind on the introduction.

Does anyone have the U.S. commercial 45 version who can determine if the wind sound effects in the intro run longer than on CD?

I compared the UK45 with the version on the CD TimeLife 'Classic Soft Rock - Ride Like The Wind' in WavePad. The intro on the 45 (before the music start) is 04.87, while it is 02.31 on the CD. I think I have to correct myself - the whole intro is a wind effect -but there is another, very short sound just after the beginning. I can not tell what it is.

I confirmed my stock commercial US45.Christopher's vocal starts at "0:35.747". The 45 running time is "3:50"
And I did this tune on US LP,too. His vocal starts at "0:33.645".Therefore LP's introduction is shorter than US45. Oddbjorn:Thank you for the great topic. |

On the UK45 the vocal starts at 35.897. On the TimeLife CD mentioned above it starts at 33.580. So the UK45 and US45 seems to be much the same (UK45 run a few seconds longer), while the LP and most of the CD's (perhaps all) have a shorter intro. The soundeffect which I mentioned above is around 0.6 (You have to turn up the volume to hear it).
Thank you all for Your help to clearify this. |

As the run time info:
The actual 45 running time is (3:50), the listed time is "3:54" on the record label. (Warner WBS 49184) |

There must be two pressings of "Ride Like The Wind," because Ed just sent me a dub of his US 45. The vocal starts at 0:35, just like abagon's, but Ed's copy runs 3:55. This lines up with the timing for the "45 length" CDs in the database.

Does the 45-rpm disc fade off before the long sustained "Ruuunnnnnnnnnnn" that Christopher sings at the end? I know most radio stations never aired the song that far to the end. Just curious.

I sent mp3 files of both the 45 and LP to Aaron, and asked him the analysis.
Aaron wrote: "I think it would cause confusion to label it as "version." It's only a second shorter on the intro, and the audio level is very low at that point." I agree with him. Many thanks for the opinion, Aaron! --abagon |
