my commercial 45 issued as atlantic 89316 does not state a version on the label, but states "lp version" on the sleeve, and has a listed run time of 4:59 but actually runs 4:56

My promo 45 has the same version as the commercial 45 and the LP.

But my UK CD Now That's What I Call Music 8 (1986) has an edited version that cuts it down to around 4:39. It removes a bit from one of the last choruses, and it may fade a little early. Anyone know if this is the UK 45?

(BTW, the 4:32 version on Time-Life's 2-CD Heart Rock is an early fade of the 45/LP version. Many, many early fades on this set.)

Not sure, but the video features an edited version that might match what you describe.

In the early 2000s, my local Hot AC station would play a version that went
straight from the second verse to the final pre chorus, does anybody know if
that's an official release, or just a sloppy in house edit by the station.

The 4:39 is not the video version Ron S, its the radio edit. It is an early fade of the 7 inch, all you need to do is fade early to recreate it.

If you dont want to recreate the early fade, it is on NOW 8 from the UK (an import), track 17 issued in 1986. Its about 50 bucks on EBAY.

fade and its a big pain to get it right...LOL

For what it's worth, the video is approximately 4:35 and has one edit which removes a segment from 4:06 to 4:25 (right on "you know I want to..."), then has a quick fade-out starting at 4:29 (4:38 pre-edit) and ends at 4:35 (4:52 pre-edit).

It's a bit of a jump-cut, since that "you know I want to" line has synth strings underneath Phil Collins which now come in abruptly on the edit.

Just wanted to confirm that the "edited version" is the UK Single version. I have recreated this version for myself based on this YouTube video playing the UK 45.

To make the edit using the original 'Invisible Touch' CD version, the one cut is from 3:55 to 4:13, right on the beat concurrent with "just can't take...". I haven't watched the official music video, but in contrast to what is posted above, there is no need to apply any fade to recreate the UK single version. If you turn up the volume at the end of the YouTube vinyl rip, you will notice the fade matches the CD album version exactly. My edit runs right to 4:40 before the audio is out.
