The actual commercial 45 run time of Jerry Reed's "When You're Hot, You're Hot" is 2:17. (Timing info courtesy of Jim. The printed record label time is 2:18.) I'm reporting this because database CD times run from 2:13 to 2:18.

As the database indicates, on the 1995 release The
Essential Jerry Reed, both of Jerry Reed's Top 40 hits, "Amos Moses" and "When You're Hot, You're Hot" are stereo. In 2015, a different compilation with the same title was issued only digitally by Sony Music Nashville. On this digital-only The Essential Jerry Reed, both songs are mono, as were the original 45s. |

I discovered the updated Essential collection a couple of
years ago and now use the mono files from that collection for the 2 big Top 40 hits in my library. |

Did any promo copies have (possibly an unlabeled) stereo
version? Reason why I ask: The FM Top-40 station in my market only played it in stereo - I remember clearly because of the alternate-panned hi hats that I thought were cool. I just assumed that the stock 45 was stereo because at that time most RCA 45s were stereo (and some didn't even have a mono promo such as "Grazing In The Grass"). Of course, it could have been dubbed from an LP. Andy |

I've had two different promo 45s for this,
one pressed for pop radio (yellow label), one pressed for country radio (green label), both were definitely mono. |

Live in stereo.

Thanks Tom!
Yeah, I'm sure in the early days of stereo Top-40 radio albums were played or dubbed to carts. Andy |

Probably played it from the LP (assuming one existed) or if the station was important enough maybe they got a stereo dub from the label. As has been discussed here many times before, the early 70s were a mixed bag for stereo 45s. While RCA was one of the earlier adopters of stereo 45s they, like most other labels were hit or miss. There were mono promos where the commercial singles were stereo (Nilsson's "Without You" is one), and I think all Elvis 45s prior to "Burning Love" were mono. |
