I noticed that one of the CDs in the database runs (3:15) for UB40's "The Way You Do The Things You Do." The other CDs are (3:01). I have two promo CD singles for this song:
PRCD 3262 1. non-described version (3:02) PRCD 3613 1. With Instrumental Introduction (3:15) 2. LP Version (3:02) Could the (3:15) version in the database be the "With Instrumental Introduction" version from my promo CD? |

Now that you mention it, Aaron, I do remember hearing an instrumental introduction back when I heard the song on Armed Forces radio. Thanks for the heads-up!

The version that appears in the database that appears on the soundtrack to "Black Rain" that runs (3:15) does not have the instrumental introduction you mention Aaron. This (3:15) version is identical to all other database versions up to the (2:25) point where background vocals start appearing on the (3:15) version. Could this (3:15) version on "Black Rain" be a 45 version (I doubt it since Whitburn lists the running time as (2:54))?

Looks like we'll have to figure out the proper notation to put next to that soundtrack. And while I wish I had a promo CD collection as big as Jim's, it was actually me who made that first post. :) Edited by aaronk |

Did the Black Rain soundtrack get released at approximately the same time UB40's "The Way You Do the Things You Do" came out as a single? If so, then perhaps it would be more accurate to show the 3:15 version on the Black Rain disc with a "soundtrack version" comment instead of "neither the 45 nor LP version"? Whichever comment Pat prefers, I might also suggest that the database should in addition state that the 3:15 version on the Black Rain CD is not the same as the "With Instrumental Introduction" 3:15 DJ version. This would help subscribers avoid confusion.

Did we ever figure this out? Guess I am going to have to get the Black Rain soundtrack to hear this 3:15 for myself. |

It's on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvWi-6ejKtk
This is a different mix from the version we're used to hearing. It's not just the vocals near the end. There are different effects on the vocals and instrumentation at different levels from the very beginning. |

So its not the single version, not the LP, just a non-hit mix... |

That sounds about right. Seems like a non-hit soundtrack version.

Wow, I never heard the soundtrack version before. The
moment it started I could hear it's quite a different mix! |
