I have a couple copies of this 45, one autographed on the label by one of the band members (Michael Tait) using his full name (which i'm told he almost never signs his last name with an autograph). Will have to dig out one of my un-autographed copies to see how it times out. I once bought 12 copies from a store selling off its old stock and sent four of them to Michael (after he signed my copy he commented that he had not seen the 45 of it since it was released, and the rest of his band at the time had not seen one ever, so i sent him copies to give to them), two of them to a friend of mine who is a huge dc Talk fan (one for her and one for one of her friends), i sold three on ebay and kept a couple of them for myself.

That brings to mind an interesting question: when record companies released singles from the albums, did the artists get sent a copy? I guess I can understand why they never would have seen the 45 - vinyl releases became very limited as the '90s wore on. Maybe artists only saw CD singles in the '90s(?) |

We'd probably have to hear from a few artists or label execs as to what their policies were but it wouldn't surprise me if the band was sent a few copies, as they likely were for their cd releases as well....

In addition to a 1-track promo released on Virgin (DPRO-11564), which contains the 3:42 listed, 3:46 actual "Radio Edit" mentioned upthread, there is also a multi-version promo on their independent label ForeFront:
SGD 4032 1. Between You And Me (AC Version) (listed & actual 4:57) 2. Between You And Me (Progressive AC Version) (listed & actual 4:57) 3. Between You And Me (AC / CHR Version) (listed & actual 4:57) 4. Between You And Me (Album Version) (listed & actual 4:57) 5. Jesus Freak Album Spot (a :60 radio commercial) The overall mix is the same on all versions (including the shorter 3:46 Radio Edit). The difference between the four versions on the independent promo CD single have to do with lyrics either left in or removed from the mix between 2:53 and 3:23. These lyrics include references to God and Christianity. I'm betting the band figured they could crossover with this song but wanted to give radio stations an option that didn't have overtly Christian lyrics. Nevertheless, I'm not sure if any of these versions got any mainstream airplay. My station always played the shorter Radio Edit, which completely removes this section rather than muting the vocals. For what it's worth, Top Hits USA RH039 (a recurrents disc; it never appeared on a weekly T disc) and Hot Hits Pop Vol. 49 both featured the 3:46 Radio Edit. I only have the 4:57 versions on the promo CD single.

There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.

The 3:49 radio edit was also the edit for the music video
of the song. Here in Columbus WNCI and WSNY played the song. Several CHR's stations around the country did chart the song. Along with Amy Grant Michael W. Smith, Kathy Triccoli and Stryper all had some "crossover" success, shortlived. |

I've always been curious about the 4 track promo cd for
Just Between You and Me. According to Aaron's description, there are no mix differences, just editing or muting certain words during the :30 bridge of the Album Version? |

In my pursuit of God I thirst for holiness As I approach the Son I must consider this Offenses unresolved Will keep me from the throne Before I go to Him My wrong must be atoned These are the verses either muted or edited out. the 3:49 version edits them out completely, while the promo cd mutes them in the bridge. I think the LP version unedited is also one the tracks on the promo if I remember right. |

I had a subscription to Hot Hits back then. Most of those discs were packed away and forgotten as I didn't really use them much. I think that service was originally supposed to be sold to CD "Jukeboxes", and they started selling to mobile DJs too. Did that cause them problems with the record companies? |
