The database states that the "Only Rock & Roll..." disc has the ":03 longer than the dj edit." Listening to a copy, and it appears that it's just a quick fade starting just before the guitar solo and ending a few seconds after the solo begins.
Was the DJ 45 an early fade, or did it end cold with no remnants of the guitar solo? |

My copy, from a TM Century disc (if it's the true DJ edit), ends cold with no remnant of the guitar.

John, that is how I remembered playing it from an old TM disc back in the day. No remnant of the guitar. My GoldDisc, however, has the full version with guitar outro. Hopefully someone with the promo 45 can shed some light as to whether it matches the TM disc, or if they did some sort of custom edit.

The DJ 45 had a quick fade with remnants of the flamenco guitar; the TM Century version was manufactured to have a cold ending by adding a ton of reverb to the last chord.

I had a feeling TM might have done that, Andrew. Back in the days of the "red" letter discs, there were other tracks that had added reverb; most notable were mono tracks disguised as stereo. For example, I have a dub of "Little Saint Nick" by the Beach Boys and "Santa Bring My Baby Back" by Elvis, and if you perform a "vocal cut" you're just left with a bunch of reverb.

I have the TM-Century version with the cold ending on a GoldDisc, was it around during the song's chart run? Was there another source of that version? Kiss 108 in Boston used that version, but I don't think they used Hitdiscs...indeed I recall hearing vinyl there (complete with cue burn) even after that song's chart run.
My promo 45 is like Andrew's...basically a quick fade/dump of the album version with a trace of the guitar remaining. Could there have been a 12" with the cold ending? |

To Hykker:
I kinda doubt there was a 12" vinyl in the USA with the manufactured cold ending. I own the Slash/Warner promo 12" PRO-A-2737. Side 1 is the (unlabled) album version and Side 2 is labeled "(Fade)" & is the same as the promo 45 version. Andy |

Bumping this up for Ed. It still doesn't fully answer his question about
the actual length of the DJ 45, though. |

The short side of my DJ 45 runs an actual 2:15.
