My commercial copy of "#9 Dream" by John Lennon lists a time of 4:44 but actually runs 4:19. I've been told by a Beatles-expert friend that this is the case with every "#9 Dream" 45 he's ever come across. So, anybody here actually have a commercial pressing that times out to 4:44?

I have a copy of this song that runs (2:56), and I'm wondering if it's the official DJ edit. Here's a short description:
Same as LP version up to the part where the song changes key and slows down. At (2:10), the edit jumps to (4:01) of the LP version (where the other "slow down" part is). The edit on my copy is AFTER the drums, and before the foreign language chorus starts. Nothing else is different. Does this match the DJ 45? Edited by aaronk |

guys,
my copy of "The John Lennon Collection" has a 2:44 version that sounds like it has the edit you mention (maybe it fades earlier...dunno why it's shorter). Pat's database indicates it is the LP length there. My CD is made in Canada and has the same catalog number as Pat's. Edited by davidclark |

Wait a minute. Pat's database indicates that (4:44-4:45) is the LP length, not (2:44).

David and Doug -- The song #9 Dream first appeared on the "Walls And Bridges" vinyl LP with a running time of (4:45). The John Lennon Collection album is a greatest hits album and in the US, the vinyl and cd versions run (4:45). David must have a Canadian pressing that runs (2:44). I have two copies of the commercial 45 and one runs (4:16), the other runs (4:19).

My edit has a :19 intro; the edit I mentioned is at (2:10); the fade starts at around (2:27), but it's very drawn out...not ending until (2:56). Perhaps your copy does fade out sooner, David. Can anyone provide info on the actual promo 45? |

My findings EXACTLY concur with yours, Aaron, except that mine might end perhaps a second or two earlier. Or, it could just be such low volume, at fade's end, that you can hear it and I can't.

Jim:
Are you basing your findings on a promo 45 release? |

To my knowledge, Todd, until this possible CD release of it came to be,
the promo 45 was the ONLY place it ever turned up at this length. That is what my findings are based on. I know Pat has (2:58) in his book for it for a time, but I just couldn't get that far. I suspect at least some of Pat's "listed" promo times haven't actually been "confirmed" for exact run times yet. I had my "digital guy" already do an EXACT digital edit of my promo 45 for me, AND I just re-listened to my own digital dub of my promo 45. (My niece has borrowed some 70's Lennon 45s for a week (including that one) for a class presentation - thought promos would get her a higher grade!@? - I trust her), so the actual promo's across town right now - so no promo deadwax/label info available, temporarily. It'll be back soon. Nonetheless, both are definitely (2:52). If anyone would like either a vinyl or digital dub to compare or contrast - just ask. Promo 45 mono side deadwax: "PRO-8029-F-1" Promo 45 stereo side deadwax: "S-PRO-8035-F-1" Edited by jimct |

Does anyone know where the fade begins on the stock 45 length?
