The database states the following about "Make Me Lose Control" by Eric Carmen:

dj copies of this 45 run (4:45) not (4:35) as stated on the record label and (4:27) not (4:17) as stated on the record label; commercial copies all run (4:45) even though some state a running time of (4:35) and others (4:45))

My copy of Magic Moment on Heartland has a running time of 4:28.   Would that mean that this is one of the DJ 45 versions? If so, should this be noted in the database?

Jeff, does your 4:28 version have an edit or simply fade early?

I don't think it is an early fade but I am not 100% sure. Is there a way I can differentiate?

I went to the 4:09 mark in both versions and they are at different points in the songs at that mark. Would that be a way to tell?

Yes, that is an indication of an edit, unless of course the songs don't run at the same pitch.

The other thread (that Paul Haney brought back) doesn't list where the edit is. Does anyone know? I'm curious.

I was able to edit by chance. The edit point is from 3:23.9 to 3:41.5. about.
I think that the precise point isn't able to be found it without the short side of the promo copy.

My promo CD single for this is Arista ASCD-9686, released
1988, with just one track, denoted as "Single Version",
printed 4:45, actual 4:46.

To promo 45 version has found its way onto at least one
commercially available CD. I have it on Quality Canada's
This Is Music 5 (1989).

To recreate the promo 45, it's one easy edit from the LP
and commercial 45 version. Using timings from my promo
CD single:

Keep 0:00.0 to 3:24.4 of the LP/commercial 45 version.
Edit between in the middle of the word "go". The edit
occurs right at the first tambourine hit, so that it goes
edit-snare-second tambourine hit-downbeat.
Remove the 32 beats from 3:24.4 to 3:42.0.
Keep 3:42.0 to 4:46.6 (end) of the LP/commercial 45
version.

Your mixdown will run 4:28 if you don't put an early fade
on it, with an edit at 3:24.

My copy on This Is Music 5 fades at 4:20, but I
don't know if the true promo 45 fades at the same place,
or if This Is Music 5 fades early. I've seen many
other early fades on this series, so it wouldn't surprise
me if it's an artifact of this Canadian CD.

Everything runs at 109.0 BPM, so no pitch differences.

Earlier this year a digital only compilation was released titled "And Now, Eric Carmen: The Arista Archive" with 25 tracks including live tracks, demos and alternate versions.

One of the rarities is the demo version of "Make Me Lose Control." The early version is titled "Long Live Rock & Roll." Pretty cool to hear the demo after all these years.
