Can anyone confirm if the "neither the 45 nor LP version" of Spencer Davis Group's "I'm a Man" that so commonly appears on CD is actually the UK 45 and/or LP version?

great question, Todd. I too have always wondered about this track. Mostly
appearing in mono, it did surface on a Canadian Best Of LP in 1967 in stereo but with a longer beginning and earlier fade (I don't know the timing of this version). Hoping someone can confirm the UK 45 length. iTunes has a stereo mix running 2:43, - none of the CD appearances run this length! Edited by davidclark |

The new CD release "Somebody Help Me-The Best Of 1964-1968" Raven RVCD-342 has the mono UK version time as 2:54 and the stereo US version as 2:37. Both times listed and actual.

The mono "neither the 45 nor LP version" CD appearances of "I'm a Man" have run times ranging from 2:48-2:55, so Smokin' Tom Gary's post seems to suggest these discs may indeed consist of the UK 45 version. Now if someone with a vinyl UK 45 can verify this, we can close this case!

Was the mono "neither the 45 nor LP version" on the original 1967 release of The Best of the Spencer Davis Group Featuring Stevie Winwood, or did that version first turn up on the CD reissue?

the answer to this question? I also think that longer neither version that turns up on CD often may indeed be either the UK single or LP version from 1967 (but it would be nice if someone can confirm that). |
