Not a Top 40 hit, but this song was released in 1968 or
1969. The 45 has a listed time of 2:37, but digital copies run 2:52. My guess, is that the first :15 of the intro is edited off. Can anyone confirm? |

John, your question was no doubt prompted by the obviously un-airable,
"Kick Out The Jams, m*****f*****'s" profanity yelled out at the start of the song's LP version. For the 45 version, though, in that same spot, Elektra altered/modified the phrase with, "Kick Out The Jams, brothers and sisters!" It would require a more careful analysis at my end to determine the :15 time difference, however. But that intro was a major "hook" to the song, regardless of the phrase, so I'm not at all surprised Elektra went to the bother to preserve it somehow. Edited by jimct |

Thanks, Jim, it looks as though I'll need to purchase a 45
unless the "brothers and sisters" lyrical edit occurs somewhere else in the song. |

Yes, you'll need to purchase the 45. Brothers and Sisters intro on late pressings of the LP too.

I didn't realize this earlier, but the version with the "brothers and sisters" intro is on a 1989 Time-Life compilation (just like the one on the you tube link above). The track runs (2:37) and it's track 12 of 22 on my copy.

Thanks, Santi, for sharing that valuable info nugget! It's always nice to
discover that a version of a song we're lookin' for is on a CD I already bought and have owned for over 20 years now! |

BTW, Gene isn't the only one with a full mail box. Jim's is also full. I was going to ask Jim to listen to both the CD and the 45 version to make sure they do indeed match.

Will do, when time allows, Santi. I never really figured out a way how to file
my many, many V/A collections for a quick locate, so finding that specific T/L disc will take some diggin' at my end. And thanks about my full PM mailbox. Didn't know it was full - it now has some room, FYI. |

I can confirm that the Time Life disc mentioned earlier in the thread does contain the correct 45 version of "Kick Out The Jams." The fade on the CD is a couple seconds earlier than the actual 45, though.
