Hi folks. The usual question. Can the 45 be extracted
from the LP (realizing of course that the 45 was mono and
the LP was stereo)?

I think I might have found the answer to my initial
query. Somebody loaded the 45 to YouTube.

One very small edit somewhere in the beginning (sounds
like any one of the four-bars between the (:06) and the
(:16) mark on the LP version can be edited [so long as
you start and end the edit on the downbeat]). What I
don't know is whether it's a dedicated mono mix on the 45
or a fold-down. But at least it appears you can create a
stereo single version just by chopping off one of the
four-bars.

As to whether any promo singles were shorter I don't
know, Steve.

I'm still not sure about that, Paul. It didn't sound like
there was any, but that's based on jumping forward a few
times in the YouTube video to see if times lined up. I
don't have A/B software to really do a valid comparison.

able to create a stereo 45 version.

Aaron, I don't know. Maybe you could give it a second listen (and
goodness knows, I don't say that to you too often, my friend!) Perhaps there
were two different 1969 stock 45s issued. I listened quite carefully to both
the 45 I own & the CD version a number of times a year or two ago, and I
clearly recall that his voice is much more raw and emotive at times on the 45
version, especially during the 2nd half of the song (after your You Tube
sample stopped, perhaps). His voice almost "cracks" a couple of times, it is
so raw, raspy and impassioned on that single. It jumped right out at me, just
like the musical differences I'd heard on the 45 versions of songs like "All
Right Now", "Going Up The Country" and "Evil Woman". Aaron, it is great
news that you believe the 45v is on CD somewhere; I'd buy it immediately.
