There's no mention in the database of it, but I have a DJ CD single of "Poison" which contains 2 versions: the "No Ho Version" and 7" Version. The 7" Version sounds exactly like the LP version to my ears. The "No Ho Version" which runs the same length as the LP/7" version (4:21) is the exact same mix---just removing the two occurances of the word "ho."

Also, I have commercial & promo copies of "Do Me" and neither disc has the LP version on it; however, I don't ever remember hearing any other version on the radio except the LP verison. I do recall the video for the song using the opening of the LP version & then switching to the "Radio Mentality" mix from the promo CD single (which has the lyrics "hip hop smoothed out on the r&b tip..." at the end). I'm guessing the cassette single and vinyl 7" have the LP version?

I've searched high and low for evidence of the LP version of "Do Me" being issued on promo CD, but I haven't come across a listing yet. Does anyone know if a separate promo exists besides the one with remixes?

Does anyone know if the instrumentals for these have ever been issued on CD? I have searched high and low, and found nothing.

You don't give a catalog no. above, but for FWIW, the only U.S. promo CD single shown for "Do Me!" in Gregory Cooper's 1998 book, "Collectible Compact Disc Price Guide 2", is on "MCA 18382"...

However, he does list the existence of TWO for "Poison": "MCA CD45 18183" and "MCA CD45 18218"...

Sorry, no versions or timings given for any of the above promos...

Always liked both songs, and even went so far as to buy the cassette maxi-single of "Do Me!" back when it was a hit in 1990...

Aaron & Brian, I went to box #1 of my 1990 promo CD singles, and what I found in there exactly matches up with the "sounds-like-a-great-book" info that 80smusicfreak referenced above. Here are the full details:

Bell Biv DeVoe-"Poison" (CD45-18183) (this one came into the station first)
1-(non-described version) (listed & actual 4:22)

Bell Biv DeVoe-"Poison" (CD45-18218)
1-Poison (No Ho Version) (listed 4:25; actual 4:22)
2-Poison (7" Version) (listed 4:25; actual 4:22)

Bell Biv DeVoe-"Do Me!" (CD45-18382)
1-Do Me! (Radio Mentality) (listed 5:16; actual 5:15)
2-Do Me! (East Coast Mental Mix) (listed & actual 5:31)
3-Do Me! (Smoothed Out Version) (listed & actual 3:16)
4-Do Me! (Mentality Hip Hop) (listed 8:35; actual 8:53)

Brian, FYI, none of these 4 tracks above happen to be instrumentals. Aaron, there could always be another promo CD single out there for "Do Me!", that I never saw, that may have had the LP Version you're looking for on it, but to date I do not either own one or know of one that does. However, MCA told us that "Do Me!" was gonna be the next "single", and I do remember us playing it off of the full CD for the first week or two. Then, when the promo CD single came in, now that I recall, we still liked the LP version better, never switched over, and played the LP version on-air during its entire chart run at our station. Maybe other stations felt the same way we did about the song, sir!

Thanks for posting that info, Jim. It's very possible that a separate LP version promo was never issued, even though I've never heard any of the remixes on the air.

Brian, I don't think an instrumental for either song exists on CD, either. I've looked, too.

I don't think I've ever heard the official "no ho" edit of "Poison". The CHR I was music director at for much of the 90s didn't go CHR until 1994, and (for some reason) didn't get serviced with this as a current in 1990 when they were soft AC! All I had to work with when I produced an edit for on-air use was a commercial copy. The only instance of that term I noticed was about midway thru the song where they said "keepin' one eye open still clockin' the ho". I replaced "clockin' the ho" with drumbeats from elsewhere in the song (or maybe I used the instrumental side...it's been a long time and I didn't save a copy of my edit of this one). Where was the other "ho" in the song?

As far as the instrumentals go, for some reason MCA put an instrumental version of the A side on the B side of their 45s in lieu of an actual other song. I don't know why.

Thanks for info on the 'no ho' version. I've got an order placed on Musicstack.
