My original 1970 commercial 45, confirmed as Blue Thumb 114, is stereo,
has handwritten deadwax of "8027", and features both a listed and actual time of (4:05). And although I don't currently own a Blue Thumb 114 promo 45 copy, Discogs has scans of both sides of it. They show the identical "8027" deadwax info on both label sides, as well as the (4:05) both sides listed time. It is currently a secondary want of mine. I will likely pick up a copy soon, and if any unexpected details come to light when I acquire/play it, I'll report back. (Or if someone else has a copy of it now, please feel free to chime in with its full, actual time details.) My #1 curiosity for the 1970 promo 45 all along was to see if it included a version with a length shorter than (4:05). Based on my findings above, I am currently 99% sure that the answer is no. Meanwhile Mason, who by 1977 was recording for Columbia, was having the biggest Top 40 success of his career, around Oct/Nov, with "We Just Disagree". His former label, Blue Thumb, was still operational at this time. And although they were an indie label back in '70, they were being distributed by the ABC label in late 1977. Here is yet another instance where a current hitmaker's former label is hoping to financially cash on a former roster artist's newfound success by issuing a "from the vaults" release. Re-released as a 45 in November of 1977, this time as ABC/Blue Thumb 276, was "Only You Know And I Know." This promo is mono (handwritten deadwax "BT-276-AM-RE-1")/stereo (handwritten deadwax "BT-276-AS- RE-1"). Both sides also have a listed time :35 seconds shorter than the 1970 45 did, at (3:30). (This promo 45 also has a Discogs master listing and can be browsed, if curious.) I have just timed the stereo side of this shorter, 1977 promo 45, and it also runs exactly (3:30). Pat, feel free to skip any/all db notations for this (3:30) 1977 promo 45, since it is, for our purposes, nothing but a later, non-hit release of the song. However, I did want to make a mention of it here on the board, as it is arguably one of Mason's two "signature" solo tracks, and the fact that a shorter version of the song's original recording exists, albeit one created 7+ years after its 1970 Top 40 chart run, was an occurrence that I thought might possibly be of interest to some here.
