I'm embarrassed to bring this to you guys as I know this site is focused on top 40 POP charts, but I have exhausted all of my other sources... short of buying the single on eBay to play once to get the timing right, you're my only hope!

1981's "Victim of Love" by The Cars ran 4:24 on its parent LP, "Shake It Up." It wouldn't chart on the Hot 100 but did limp onto the rock charts, making it to #39 before tumbling down again.

The Elektra single, released with a traditional red label to stores and a white label to radio, listed a run time of 3:55.

Does anybody have this single? Can you confirm or deny this single length? Is it an early fade or removal of the last verse or some other option?

BlackLight Radio is going to play the song and although NOBODY probably remembers the single, I'd still like to get it "right."

Thanks for any help you can offer!!!

Thanks to Aaron, I'm able to confirm that the single was just an early fade of the LP version, and indeed ran 3:55.

The 45 was actually 0.5% slower than the LP version at the beginning of the song, 0.3% slower by the end of the song, which is a little unusual. The tempo is 129 BPM at the beginning, 128 BPM by the end.

The fade runs almost 13 seconds.

Thank you, Aaron, for once again finding the needle in the haystack!
