I see only one US 7 inch for this song.

https://www.discogs.com/release/2137305-Evelyn-Thomas-High-E nergy

It says it times in at 2:55. Hopefully someone has another 45 or 45 promo and a dub of this. I am curious what the hit version of this song actually is.

The US 12'' Remix has an 8:35 of the song.
The 12'' is 7:51 and is available on Now UK 12'' 80's
The Extended is 6:48 and available on Dance Classics The Hits Vol 16.
The LP is 5:28 and easily obtainable.
There is a 3:51 edit (The UK 45?) that opens with the instrumental 15 second famous beat and is on Best Disco In Town Vol. 1 Disc 2. This version I seem to remember got played on Z-100 and WKTU back in the day. Huge hit.
There is a 3:41 edit on Greatest Hits of the 80s Disc 7 that opens up with the vocal for 31 seconds and then starts the famous beat. This version seems to match the video for the song.
The 2:55 is on the 7'' in the United States and it is nowhere on youtube etc soI have not heard it. The B-Side is the 3:48 UK version ( https://www.45cat.com/record/tr106us

Anyone have any insight into which is the "hit" radio version? If it helps any Whitburn has a 3:48 listing in the pop annual but have no idea what U.S. 45 that is based on. Thanks.

PS This CD seems to match the time on Whitburn's commercial 45 listing

In similar off topic, HiNRG fashion, does anyone know about
the correct US 45 version of "Evergreen" by Hazell Dean?
Discogs has a listed time of 3:15. There are a couple of
videos on YouTube in the 3:30-3:40 range but I suspect that
they're simply fan edits.

Is the 2:54 45 version of High Energy an edit of the 3:51
version?

I just tried to edit the 3:51 version to match the 45 after
listening to it on the YouTube link and the 45 may have
unique audio, not sure.

That is a question for our resident audiophile expert Aaron to determine. My gut says yes after listening.

Either way I can't find a listing on discogs for anything but the 2:55 45 version. There has to be one for the 3:48, otherwise Paul wouldn't have put the 3:48 as the commercial release in the Whitburn annual.....

Thanks Jeff....that part from 1:49-1:51 sounds unique to the 45...in the 3:51 the transition at 2:04-2:07 is "ooh high" which is different and the 2:54 just fades out while the 3:51 just comes to a sudden stop ending.

Another version that aired in 1984 is the NY Hot Tracks one that is 3:24

Now this 2015 version is HI-NRG! She still has a great voice. The beat is insane!

That's the 45 we have in the RR collection. We show the
B-side as (short version), so we obviously considered the
(3:48) UK version to be the "hit" version at the time.

Over at 45cat, the 2:55 version is listed as the A side:

A side

The 3:48 UK version is listed as the AA side.

Actual photo of the record in the RR collection. The green sticker is affixed to Side AA, indicating that we
consider that side to be the "hit" side...
