My commercial 45, which is stereo, has a listed time of (3:30), but an actual time of (3:37).

Pat:

I see you've updated the database for "Love's Theme" with Jim's 45 run time information. However, all CDs currently showing the "45 version" comment run 3:32-3:33, except on the Instrumental Gold CD (Good Music Record Co. 127225), which runs 3:38. I point this out because the database comment for the latter disc specifies: (45 version but slower), yet it runs much closer to the actual 3:37 45 run time than do all the 3:32-3:33 CDs that simply state: (45 version). This doesn't quite make sense to me and I was wondering if we could get some clarification on this. Thanks!

My original commercial 45, which is the edited version, runs exactly 3:32.

Based on Grant's new report above, which states a :05 difference from the actual timing in my opening post, I just pulled out and re-timed my commercial 45. Again, my initial timing results were found: a listed time of (3:30), and an actual time of (3:37). For both of my commercial 45 copies, the deadwax info is "M-2069-AS". Now curious, I also just pulled out and timed my promo 45. It, too, has a listed time of (3:30), but an actual time of (3:37). My promo 45's deadwax is "M-2069-AS 1A". Grant, could you please provide the deadwax info for your actual (3:32) 45 version?

Interesting... It sounds like there are two different 45 pressings. If it turns out the 45 running 3:37 is simply slower than the 45 running 3:32, then it would appear both are currently available on CD.

Ack! I stuffed it back in the box and put it away. I'll try to remember to pull it back out tomorrow to check.

Sorry, Grant, and I TRULY feel your pain. I thought I was the only one that "I put it back in the box, and re-filed it already" happened to!

I just stumbled upon a "Remember Series" reprint 45 for this, with the flip "Satin Soul". For the heck of it, I just timed this "Love's Theme" reprint, and it has a listed time of (3:30) and an actual time of (3:33). The fade clearly starts earlier on this reprint 45 than it does on either my original commercial/promo 45. My reprint deadwax is "M-TCR-6-AS-1", which is obviously a completely different, "oldies" numbering series. Grant's deadwax would certainly be closer to what appears on my original 45s, but this at least gives us further evidence of a 45 that does run shorter than (3:37). No doubt, Grant's supplying of his original 45's deadwax will be the final confirmation of this, however.

Aw shoot! I was just weeding out some 45s a few hours ago, and ran across that 45. I forgot to pull it back out.

An update for this song's entry on the CD called "D.J. Disco Mix Vol. 2". You wrote:

(S) (4:07) Beast 53452 D.J. Disco Mix Vol. 2 (all selections on this cd are segued together)

While this is true of virtually all other tracks on this 2CD set, this song appears to be the 4:07 album version. It's definitely NOT segued at the beginning or end. It's the last song on Disc 1, and the intro just starts with that swirling string (no beats are underneath it). And as the last song, it just fades. No weird beats at the end. As it clocks in at 4:07, which is virtually the same as the 4:08 album version, I think it would be best to list this song as "album version" on this CD.
