Pat, I happen to have two commercial copies for this 45. One has both a listed and actual time of (3:56), with a deadwax of "CH-3004-AS." The other has a listed time of (3:56) and an actual time of (3:55), with a deadwax of "CH-3004-AS-1", followed by a machine-typed "KENDUN A." I only post this because the database currently states that commercial 45s run either (3:48) or (3:12), and neither one of my 45s happens to have either one of those timings - perhaps one that you own does.

My copy of this 45 runs (3:48) with matrix number "CH-3004-AS Kendun 1-8-75". On January 26, 2006, in a post by Todd Ireland, he says Edtop40 has this 45 which runs (3:12). Ed has been reliable in the past for timing cassette singles and 45's so I am taking his word that he does have a copy that runs (3:12) but I do not have the matrix number information to pass along -- Ed can you dig this up for us?

Chelsea issued a "Special Edit" stereo/mono promo 45 with a listed run time of 3:53; the actual time of the stereo side is 3:54. The matrix number is CH-3004-AS-RE1-DJ. Interestingly, the title was followed by "Part II," but that was crossed out by what looks like a marker pen.

hate to crash in on the discussion, but this had bothered me since 1975:
back then, my local radio station played an "extended" version of this song that included both sides of the single. It is not the same as the LP version. I wonder if Celsea issued a 12" single, or if the DJ made his own edit. I attempted to copy what I heard on the radio by using both sides of the 45, but it is not quite there. Anyone know of a commercial or DJ version other than the 45 or LP? |

Grant, as Gary Mack had posted just before you, the Get Dancin' "Special Edit" promo 45 was, indeed, a special, unique edit of the song. It is NOT the same mix as the commercial 45, and was probably the version you heard on your local radio station back in 1975.

The reason I bothered with a post about it is because I remembered it to be a bit longer than 3:54, but I could be wrong. It was definitely a slightly different mix, mainly with the background vocals.
I hope I can find that special promo. I can sure use it! |
