Our commercial copy of "My Girl" by The Temptations (Gordy 7038) states a time of (2:55), but actually runs (2:54). This version is mono and matches exactly several mono database entries, including the Hitsville U.S.A. box set on Motown. The confusing part is each of those entries states (runs :14 longer than either LP or 45). Are we dealing with 2 different 45 pressings here?

Paul, there are also several entries in the database running 2:54 that don't give any indication of running longer than the 45 or LP.

Was there also mono or stereo and/or a 45/LP version difference on this song?

I just checked the database again, and there are only a handful that don't have the longer comment and many, many more that do (btw, how many CDs can they put this thing on!).

What it boils down to is this...what makes the few without the comment different than the many that have the longer comment???

I just timed my 45 and come up with a running time of (2:52) not (2:55) as stated on the record label. My stereo LP of "The Temptations Sing Smokey" runs (2:41) even though the label states (2:53) so perhaps there is a mono/stereo issue regarding the LP running time. Does anyone have the mono LP of "The Temptations Sing Smokey"?

I'm still confused as to why each mono CD appearance of "My Girl" running 2:54-2:56 currently contains a comment about how it runs :XX longer than the stereo LP version. Shouldn't the comment instead read: "45 length"? I feel like I'm not quite following something correctly here.

By the way, does "My Girl" hold the record for most appearances on CD by a Top 40 hit?

Todd, if I were a betting man I would bet the mono LP version of "The Temptations Sing Smokey" runs (2:54) therefore until someone steps forward with the complete information, the only comment I can enter is relative to the 45 and stereo LP version. Ultimately the comment will probalby read xx longer than the 45 and mono LP length. If the mono LP length is not (2:54) then yes, you are correct.
