Can anyone tell me how the single version of the Doors' "Touch Me" differs from the album version? I understand it's mixed differently but is the structure of the song different, too? And does anyone know if the single version is available on an import CD?

Hi Edisonlite,

yeah, the mix is different on the 45 than that of the LP (the 45 is far superior to my ears!). From memory, the drums are up center, and a few other differences exist giving it a more fuller, powerful sound. I no of NO appearances on CD of it. I think it should be! The box set would have been logical. But no. We can only hope someday, someone with knowledge or who cares will put it out. 'Til then, no more Doors CD purchases for me!

This is my first posting (though I have yet to make my own thread, one on Steely Dan).

I';m listenting to the Doors's original 2-minute,55 second LIGHT MY FIRE, and I'd like to add
The song has a tinkling piano when Jim slows down and concludes the vocal on LP, violions on single.

At the end the single goes DA DA DA DA but the LP has a parody of a then-current commercial phrase from detergent TIDE's ad..STRONBGER THAN DIRT.:)
You know you're really older when you think that younger singer Jesse McCartney's related in anyway to former Beatle Paul McCartney.

The single Wishful Sinful was also remixed in the same way as Touch Me for 45 release. Punchier mix. That single mix hasn't made it to CD either.

As if it was the slightest bit important, the "Stronger Than Dirt" jingle was for Ajax. :-D (maybe it was important to Jim....)

I finally found a mono DJ 45 of "Touch Me" by the Doors. Sounds like a dedicated mono mix for AM radio, or at least a mix that favors the channel with the horns, as the horns are much more prominent than if you simply sum the stereo single. More significantly, it runs slower. Label time says 3:09 just like the stereo single (which runs 3:11), but my mono DJ 45 runs 3:14.

Now that the Doors box set has been released, I was finally able to hear what the stereo single of "Touch Me" is supposed to sound like--from tape source!

I agree with Bill that the mono DJ 45 is a unique mix and is not simply a fold down of either the stereo LP or stereo single version. In addition to the horns and strings being more prominent, there is less reverb on the drums. Also, as Bill pointed out, it runs slower by about 1.5%.

Doug:

This would be the new Doors Singles box set, a Japanese 14-CD compilation where each disc represents a faithful reproduction of the band's 14 vinyl single releases in Japan between 1967 and 1972. It's my understanding that each of these 45 versions were mastered from tape sources!

No offense, but I don't get the whole "singles set"
mentality. A pricey collection of CDs, each with 2 songs
on them. Why not just issue one CD with the A&B sides of
the singles? Dunno about the rest of you, but storage
space can be an issue for many of us.
