I have two different versions of "Hey Ma," both on Promo Only CDs. They are both taken from different promo CD singles. The first is the "Mainstream Pop Edit," running 2:57. It can be found on the following:

DEFR 15674
1. Mainstream Pop Edit
2. Album Edit
3. Instrumental
4. Call Out Research Hook

There most definitely was another promo, because we used to have it in the air studio of my old top 40 station. The lead track was the "Radio Edit," I believe. I have this version on another Promo Only CD, and it runs 3:52. This might also be the same as the "Album Edit" on the above promo CD.

Aaron, I own two different promo CD singles for this song. One is the one you list above. There were no listed times for that disc, but here are the actual times:

1-(2:58)
2-(3:52)
3-(3:51)
4-(--: callout research hook)

The other promo CD single I own is an officially manufactured Def Jam CD-R, featuring one track. It is shorter than any version you reference above, however:

-Cam'ron--"Hey Ma"
1-Pop Edit (listed 3:20; actual 3:24)

I will shoot this version out to you, sir, for your further analysis.

Thanks, Jim! I also had forgotten that I had the 4-track promo CD single. I just came across it yesterday. I've never heard the "Pop Edit" on your CD-R, but I'm curious to hear it.

I remember specifically getting a second clean version of this that in addition to swearing, also got rid of references to getting high, so there's a lot of blanked out lyrics.

I'm pretty sure the Mainstream Radio Edit also removes the references
to getting high. The regular radio edit leaves those references in.

Comparing Jim's "Pop Edit" with the "Mainstream Pop Edit," here are my findings:

- The same words have been edited out of both versions.
- The "Mainstream Pop Edit" cuts the first verse in half, ending with the line "listens and takes advice" before going back into the chorus.
- The fade is in the same point for both versions, starting right after the piano "breakdown" when the beat kicks back in.
