I have the 45 version of this on a Reader's Digest CD, but has it showed up anywhere else? The sound quality is just so-so on the Reader's Digest CD.

Brian,
Is it "Easy Listening Hits of the 60's & 70's"? That's where I have it. Agree, sound just ok. |

That one, too, David, but it fades out a little early on that one. The full length single version is on Reader's Digest "The ELvis Presley Years." Well, IF the single ends with him saying, "May God bless you, adios" If the single ends with "Thank you very much," then the one you have is the single length version. I don't have the 45 to compare. But the running time Whitburn lists matches the longer version.
Sound quality is the same on both of them. |

Unfortunately, I've found that the vast majority of Presley's recordings have average to below average sound quality on CD. In my opinion, the best sounding Elvis discs by far are 30 #1 Hits (RCA 68079) and Elvis 2nd to None (RCA/BMG 55895).

Really? I think "30 #1 Hits" sounds terrible. To my ears, it's so trebly and harsh, and "Love Me Tender" is unbelievably hissy... it sounds much better on one of the "Your Hit Parade" CDs. Haven't heard "2nd to None." But I have been told the new "Hitstory" has completely new mastering by the fabulous Vic Anesini, who did the outstanding remasters of "Elvis '56" and "Heart and Soul." I'm told it's not just the third disc in the set that's remastered -- he did the whole thing all over.

In case anyone out there is still seeking the 45 version
of this live hit (like I was): I’m not a big Elvis fan. However, I’ve been looking to get the 45 version of “My Way” for quite a while (even though it was on a couple of Reader’s Digest sets I never got any of them). So I picked up this fairly new 2 CD release by FTD (short for Follow That Dream Records). The RCA logo is on it plus it says it’s issued under license from Sony Music. Apparently they are Sony’s official custom label for material not commonly available elsewhere (so kind of an official Elvis reissue label for collectors). The title of the double CD set (released in Oct. 2012) is Hits Of The 70s, which was originally released in the UK in 1974. This newly expanded edition offers all of the original dozen songs plus another 37 single versions (for a total of 24 A & B sides plus the bonus track “My Way”). The single’s b-side (which was “America, The Beautiful”) is not included in this set so it’s just a total of 49 tracks. It also comes with a 12- page booklet with release and chart info plus picture sleeves. Per the liner notes they used the stereo masters for the entire set and it was mastered for CD by Vic Aneseni. Even though it was just a few months ago since it was released it may already be hard to find. The official site for these FTD releases is shopelvis dot com, however it may no longer be available there. |

All stereo Brian. I've also had time to check some of
the other tracks on this set and there are some that are identical to previous releases where they did not use the correct 45 version (for example: "I've Lost You" is the same incorrect version where all they do is fade the LP version early). They did however get "Rags To Riches" right where the piano intro is not cut short. Back To "My Way" for a second. On this set they did just like some of the Reader's Digest releases did and fade the song as soon as the applause starts so you never hear Elvis say "thank you very much" or " may God bless you, adios." Another missed opportunity. Edited by Santi Paradoa |

Santi, I'm confused by your two posts. Is the version of "My Way" on this new
"Hits Of The 70's" CD the correct 45 version, or is it "another missed opportunity?" You make both statements....... |

Jim:
The version of "My Way" on this set is not the correct 45 version (since it is faded early). There are several other tracks as well where they do not match the 45 exactly ("I've Lost You," "Steamroller Blues," "Mama Liked The Roses" plus "I Really Don't Want To Know" is missing the final drumbeat once again). Turns out this is another singles set where they get several of them incorrect (what else is new). It's when you compare them closely to the 45 that you realize they are close but "no cigar."
