Is the 45 version of "Southern Cross" just an early fade of the LP
version, or is it an edit? I don't have the 45. Thanks. |

Luckily, this appeared in digital form as one of the Digital 45's series.

It should also be noted that the commercial 45 of "Southern Cross" runs faster than its LP counterpart.

The LP length sounds quite nice on Atlantic's 3-CD set
Classic Rock 1966-1988 (1988). I think the version onThe A List Disc 11 (1994) uses the same analog transfer, but with its absolute polarity inverted. No NR on either one. To reproduce the 45 fade from Classic Rock 1966- 1988, add a 16-beat fade from 3.40.0 to 3.51.7. I don't think there's a significant speed difference. I have a dub of the vinyl 45 that runs about 0.4% faster than the Classic Rock 1966-1988 version, which is insignificant. (I didn't do that dub - it could be turntable speed error, if it wasn't dubbed on a Technics 1200 or other well-controlled turntable.) |

There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.
