Although my commercial 45 may be a defective record. (Atlanta Artists 888 193-7/ actual 4:22, listed 4:20)
Actually, the first note at 0:00.700 is truncated. A stylus never skips on my vinyl. aaronk: wrote: at "CD mastering flaws/glitches" topic - page2 "Cameo - Candy on Billboard Hot R&B Hits 1987 has the first note cut off." Also the database noted it. aaron, I sent you an mp3 file of this tune. Could you compare two? FYI. The vinyl LP doesn't have the cut off. (title :"Word Up!" Atlanta Artists 422-830 265-1 M-1/ actual 5:37 listed 5:32) --abagon |

Indeed, abagon's 45 copy sounds like it has a defect on the second drum beat, but his copy has the first beat in tact. It sounds as though the stylus is almost jumping out of the groove. It doesn't "skip" nor does it sound like a tape drop out, so perhaps it is just a defect with his copy.
The version on the Billboard CD has the first beat cut off, while the second beat is fully in tact with no glitch. So, it appears the Billboard CD does simply have a mastering error not related to what is on abagon's 45. It does bring up the question, though, if all 45 copies have a dropout on the second beat. |

And remember that "Candy" and "Word Up" were very demanding
of phono system tracking back then. A lot of heavy bass and high levels of modulation on both 45 singles. The only cartridge in radio which successfully played those singles well was the Stantons. Especially the 680 line in better tonearms. |

Wow. There's a 7" Version on the 12" single and mine plays just like abagon's 45.
I tried 3 different cartridges, 1 microline & 2 spherical and they all played the same. |

The 45 length is just an early fade of the LP length?

I have the single version of "Candy" on the Definitive
Collection. It runs 4:23. Is that the true 45 version or length? |
