My brand new RR Top Pop Singles book shows the artist of this song to be
"Chubby Checker with Dee Dee Sharp". And she is clearly singing on my
1962 commercial 45, confirmed as Parkway 835. My 45 has a listed time
of (2:31) and an actual time of (2:29), which exactly matches, time-wise,
all 4 current db CDs that feature the song's original recording. However,
my 45 states the artist only as "Chubby Checker". Pat also shows Checker
as the only artist, in his db. My deadwax info is "P835A", and was pressed
by Bell Sound.

There must've been two different artist configurations pressed up on
various 1962 Parkway 835 stock 45s, however, because I know with 99.9%
certainty that Paul Haney would not have the info in my RR book the way
he does unless Mr. Whitburn's 45 copy listed both artists. Just FYI.....

My stock copy is also credited only as "Chubby Checker". It's a Mallard pressing out of Philadelphia (pictured on Discogs as the US 45 with the picture sleeve and writing on the label) characterized by the wider-spaced typeface of the song title. Deadwax: "Bell Sound" logo, a very tiny "MG", hand-etched "P835A", "Audio Matrix" logo, followed by what looks like either a partially-written "2" or a left-facing caret sign ("<"), but with more flared-out ends. Mallard also handled the hometown pressing duties for the Swan label.

Since both Bell Sound Recording Studios in NYC and Philadelphia's Audio Matrix did record mastering, it's a toss-up as to which of the two did the actual cutting here, although it looks to be a Bell Sound job.

There's a second U.S. stock pressing on the Discogs page, which is the one that shows as the default label scan (without the pic sleeve.) This one is an RCA Rockaway pressing, which - like the Mallard pressing - is credited only to Chubby Checker. I haven't yet found a Monarch pressing to see what showed up on the west coast.

Actually, our stock copy also just shows Chubby Checker as the artist. This is one of those "editorial" decisions made by Mr. Whitburn himself. There are a handful of others like this in the current edition of Top Pop Singles ("Whenever I Call You Friend", "What Are We Doin' In Love" and "Just The Two Of Us" spring to mind).
