On the two CDs listed in the database, the run times of "Crazy Downtown" by Allan Sherman are (2:52) and (2:56). I timed my U.S. commercial 45 (Warner 5614) at only (2:41). I don't have either of the two CDs listed in the database, so I can't be certain whether we're dealing with a speed issue or an earlier fade. I've checked with a lyrics site, however, and the last few lines indicated there are not on the 45. The last words on the 45 before it completely fades out are "And we're gonna do the Bunny Hop / Those are nice dances." The lyrics site gives the additional lines "And there'll be no more frugging / Is that quite clear / No more frugging!" Since these lines are not on the 45, it would appear that the 45 is an earlier fade.

Paul, I do have his greatest hits CD on Rhino, so if you need me to check anything, just let me know.

Offhand I don't recall any speed issue between the 45 and the Greatest Hits cd, just that the cd fades the track out much later than the 45 (and I am not sure of the song length on LP but I would assume the cd version is the LP version).

I had the 45 for years and as I recall on the final fade the last words were 'That's a nice dance'

Pat, I can't find "Crazy Downtown" on any LP that Allan released - he didn't have that many and neither his 1965 nor his 1966 LP release contained the song. Amazon's mmp3 store has a 2:38 version of "Crazy Downtown" for sale but it's not the single version, I don't think. It's a different version than the one on the Rhino greatest hits CD. It sounds much less polished than the version on the Rhino CD. It's missing the prominent background vocals on the Rhino CD version and also contains the "no more frugging" line at the end.

After listening to the 45 online and comparing it to the stereo release they are definitely different. Either it's a different vocal take or a completely different recording.

I just compared the 45 to both the mono and stereo versions of Crazy Downtown and do not hear any difference between them except for the running time which is shorter on the 45.

okay..I again compared an online 45 upload to my stereo copy folded down to mono and upon further review they seem to match up. Although the 45 still sounds a bit different, which could be attributed to the speed difference (although I stretched the time on the 45 upload to match mine) ...so accounting for that and the added compression on the 45 it would now seem to be a fold down...or very close
