REO Speedwagon Edits?

Anybody know if REO Speedwagon's "Roll With The Changes" was issued as an edit version in its 1978 single release, or was it a straight reissue of the LP version? (My guess would be it was edited.)

Can someone also verify for me that the 1978 version of "Time For Me To Fly" was an edit, but the 1980 rerelease was the same as the LP?

The usual question also applies if they indeed were edits (makeable from the CD version, and all that).

I'm afraid I don't own either 45 myself, but as for "Time For Me To
Fly", there is a promo 45 for sale on eBay, with a photo, that shows
the listed time to be 2:58. Also, in his book on Top 100 Singles, Joel
Whitburn lists the 1980 version to be 3:39. Also, Mr. Whitburn lists
the single time for "Roll With The Changes" to be 3:49, so that would
appear to be an edit or early fade. Sorry I couldn't be more directly
helpful.

Sorry for reviving all these months-old threads, but hopefully the info I post is useful :)

I have a US promo single of "Roll With The Changes", and it's got a 2:50 edit (short version) on one side and the 3:49 edit (long version) on the other.

I agree with Doug - it's a good song and should have charted higher.

Ian, are you familiar enough with the tune to know whether that (3:49) edit is a straight edit of the LP (and if so, where the edit points come in)? (Heck, might as well ask about the (2:50) version, too.)

All I can contribute here is I have two versions of "In My Dreams" on different compilation CD's.

I suspect one is the album version (4:31), it runs about nine seconds longer than the other one (4:22) which sounds like a remix, with some additional production on it.

Neither edit seems to be remixed - it all seems to be straight edits of the LP version. The 2:50 version has complete intro, complete first verse and chorus, complete second verse and chorus, then jumps to the "keep on rolling" part 3 times to the cold ending.

The 3:49 version has complete intro, complete first verse and chorus, complete second verse and chorus, then to "keep on rolling". After that, there's the first half of the keyboard solo, then an edit to the last half of the guitar solo, the "keep on rolling" twice to the cold end.

I hope my explanation is helpful :)

For the record, whenever I heard that song on the radio I always heard the full 5:35 album version (and still do to this day). I have it on the "Decade of Rock N Roll 1970-1980" album REO put out around the time of "Hi Infidelity". I actually had that 45 for a while but never got around to listening to the edits - until now! It's quite interesting to hear the different edits sent to radio.
