My commercial 45 (which is mono), and both the mono/stereo sides of my promo 45, all show a listed time of (2:59), but all have an actual time of (3:06), as do all 4 database CDs.

Was the mono 45 of "Heart Of Gold" a dedicated mix?

Thanks to Jim for providing me his mono 45 dub. I did the
comparison and no, not a dedicated mix, just a fold down. No compression or EQ change either. MM |

No prob, was curious myself. I don't have a dub of "Old
Man" but when I get one I'll check that one as well. MM |

Unfortunately, the only dub of Heart Of Gold I could
find omline was from WABC77 on YouTube. And, of course, he incorporates processing into his system to mimic WABC during the 1970s. |

Yeah, WABC77 is a great source for 45 reference but the
radio compression he adds to all of them is big limitation when trying compare a mix. I've tried doing that but it changes the feel of the mix too much to make an accurate assessment. You can't even get an accurate fade reference because the compression raises the volume so much. So mainly I use his videos for general things, like overall mix, speed and length. Also the close-up label details can sometimes be useful too. BTW, that was the station we always listened to on our big kitchen table radio until about 1980 when we went FM with the rest of the world. Then in the 80s I was hearing most of those same DJ's on WCBS. MM |
