I just reviewed a new cd titled "2005 Grammy Nominees" which you can reference over on the "reviews" board if you wish. One of the tracks on that cd is "My Immortal" by Evanescence and the version on that cd which runs 4:32 is not the same version that I find on the Evanescence cd "Fallen" that runs 4:21. Anyone have information on where this 4:32 version comes from?

Pat:

Without having even heard the 2005 Grammy Nominees CD, chances are extremely good that the version of "My Immortal" on it is the radio version, which was issued on promo CD single by Wind-up Records (catalog #WUJC 20082-2) with a run time of 4:33. The version on the Evanescence Fallen CD is strictly vocals, piano, and strings. The radio version, also known as the "band version", contains all of this, in addition to drums, electric guitar, and bass. If "My Immortal" on the Grammy CD meets the latter description, then it's probably the version I've always heard on the airwaves.

I have the commercial Canadian CD single, which contains 1. Band Version (4:33) and 2. Album Version (4:21). I think the Band Version was the single version in most of the world.

Hey Pat,

the version on the Grammy CD is indeed the hit version (and video version) that features the whole band coming in at the end of the song. It's the same version as Brian's CD single, which I also have.

To clarify, there are at least two promo CD singles with slightly different mixes. Here are the catalog numbers and printed info I found posted online:

WUJC 20081-2
1. Band Version - No Strings (listed 4:33)
2. LP Version (listed 4:22)

WUJC 20082-2
1. Band Version - Guitars Down (listed 4:33)
2. LP Version (listed 4:22)

Although I don't own the actual promo CDs, I have the "Guitars Down" version on a TM Century CD and the "No Strings" version on a Promo Only CD. The strings seem to come in at 0:26 on the "Strings Version."
