Songs like this one are why I go to all the bother of timing all these #@%$& 45s! The only current CD with this song in the database runs (3:30). My commercial 45, which is stereo, also has a listed time of (3:30). No sweat, right. But the problem is, the actual running time of my 45 is (3:08)!

Nice catch, Jim! I checked our commercial 45 and it indeed states (3:30) but runs (3:08). I also checked the parent "Ian Thomas" album and that version states (3:30) and runs (3:30). The 45 is just an early fade of the album version.

BTW, Ian Thomas is the brother of comedian Dave Thomas (from SCTV). One of my favorite episodes of SCTV featured Ian and his band doing the original version of "Hold On" (which Ian wrote) later made famous by Santana. IMO, "Painted Ladies" should've charted much higher than #34 in Billboard and #27 in Cashbox, great tune!

I agree, Paul. He's got numerous other good songs that should've charted as well, that did here in Canada. Many Canadian artists around that time found it difficult to break into the U.S. charts, even after breaking in (big) for the first time!

Can anyone give a starting and ending point of the fade
to create the 45 length?

Ed was kind enough to assist. Fade from 2:57.8-3:07.9

Revisiting this 3 years later, I wanted to redo the fade
with a 45 as a guide. The 45 is narrower than the LP
length version in the database. Should this warrant a mix
designation?
