This was a #63 hit in 1994. I know there's another version with a more explicit title out there, but my question is about the clean/radio version. In the video, the line "Strung out on crack" is said, but what I remember from hearing it on the radio is that the words "on crack" were muted out. For anyone who might have the single, are those two words on the single or are they also muted out on there as well? Plus, Discogs lists the first track on the Cassette Single as running 3:39, but the video runs around 4:15, which is closer to the listed time of the "PG-13" Mix on the B-Side of the single, so I assume track 1 on the A-Side must be an edit. Can anyone shed any light on the different versions on the single? There doesn't appear to be a Vinyl 7" for this song in the US, so the Cassette Single would have to be the main point of reference, I assume. Thank you for any information about this!

Yes, I have the censored version and the words "on crack"
are indeed muted out. |

Reexamining this one, my file runs around 3:20 or so, hard
drive not hooked up right about now. It sounds like the cassette single version but I'm clueless why it's a minute shorter. |

I just obtained a copy of the commercial CD Maxi-Single of "Why Is It (Funk Dat)" (MX-2014-2).
Track 1, "Funk Dat", listed 3:39, actual 4:13 - Appears to be the same as the video version, but without the words "On Crack". Track 2, "F#@ Dat" (PG 13 Mix), listed 4:23, actual 4:24 (silence extends to 4:32) - Different vocals and the word "F#@" is replaced by what sounds like "Umph". So it's "Umph Dat" throughout this version. Surprisingly, this mix does have the words "on crack". Tracks 3 & 4 "Funk Dat"(Philly Smooth Hip-Hop Edit and Presta Dancehall Mix, respectively) - Didn't pay too much attention to these versions, but they're completely diffrent mixes compared to the more common "Funk Dat" version. Track 5, "F#@ Dat" (Raw Mix) listed 5:54, actual 6:23, silence extends to 6:29 - What you'd expect, the explicit version which also has different vocals and a few extra profanities thrown in here and there. Track 6, "F#@ Dat" (Inst-Raw-Mental) listed 5:54, actual 5:55) - Instrumental version of the Raw, PG13 and "Funk Dat" mixes. So this still leaves the question as to what's on the A-Side of the commercial Cassette Single. Since Track 1 of the CD Maxi-Single lists 3:39 but actually runs 4:13, I'm starting to wonder if a 3:39 version even exists. And John mentioned that his file runs about 3:20, so there's another unknown version there (the closest version to that running time is The Philly Smooth Hip-Hop Edit that runs about 3:25, but like I said before, it's a totally different mix). Does anyone happen to have the full-length My Poem is...The World According to Sagat CD and can confirm if the version of "Funk Dat" on there contains the "On Crack" line? Since there's a parental advisory sticker on the front, I'm thinking maybe they didn't feel the need to mute it out on the album. |

There was a version released in 1993 on Promo Only labeled
as Funk Dat [EFX's Is Radio Ready Edit]. They use SFX to mask some of the offending words and reverse words. Run time is 3:39. |

There's also a cassette single listed on Discogs that
lists a "Is Radio Ready Edit" at 3:39 and a "Radio Ready Edit" at 3:22. Hmmm. |
