So a particular disc I want is an SACD (The Police The Classics) which has De Do Do Do De Da Da Da 86, the only place it is at. I don't know much about SACD but can it play on a regular Blu-Ray, DVD player. If not, can only Hybrid's play it?
I know SACD died many years ago (and players are not for sale) so any advice on how to utilize this disc and rip it so I can add it to my collection. Much thanks! |

Favorite two expressions to live by on this board: "You can't download vinyl" and "Not everything is available on CD."

I only remember a little bit about SACD, but what I recall was they were formulated with multiple layers so that a regular CD player could play it. The other layers had the extra data.
So, as far as I know they will play on a standard player, yet may not ripp the same way an ordinary CD will in a PC. Perhaps they will ripp? |

SACD is still alive and well in certain markets.
Acoustic sounds still sells a lot of these. |

Certain SACD titles are labeled as "Hybrid" discs and
can be played on both regular CD players (including DVD players, etc.) in addition to SACD decks. They contain two layers; one redbook CD layer and one Super Audio Compact Disc layer. However, the SACD layer can only be accessed by an SACD player. If an SACD title isn't labeled as a "Hybrid" disc or if it is labeled as "Surround Sound" only, you will not be able to play it on a normal CD player. Unless I am mistaken, in your case, I believe the track you are after is only accessible on the SACD layer of that disc. |

SACDs were introduced by Sony at the end of the 90s I recall. I really wanted to adopt the format. The digital format is high resolution DSD, so it's a tad different from PCM that CDs use. 1 bit DSD would probably be close to 48 Khz 24 bit PCM if I were to make a comparison. A competitor to the format was DVD-Audio, which I think was Toshiba, but I'm just pissing in the wind guessing.
Now the showcase for SACD was multichannel audio of albums, but a two-channel stereo version of the content was included in DSD/SACD format. Then LunarLaugh mention the hybrid CD/SACDs that had a CD-like layer to that was encoded at the regular 44.1/16-bit PCM method for use in a CD player. |

Yes, as I mentioned on the other thread, this song is not only solely
accessible on the SACD level, I believe it is only on the 5.1 level. You need an SACD player set to the multichannel layer, not the SACD stereo layer, if I recall correctly... Shalom, y’all! L. Bangs |

Which, if I'm not mistaken, means it isn't going to be the original mix anyway, but rather a 5.1 surround sound remix. Edited by Brian W. |

You have to have a SACD Player to play SACD discs unless
hybrid discs, which have a CD layer. The Police SACD is not hybrid. |

The individual Police studio album SACDs are not hybrids, but
I’m pretty sure the Every Breath You Take compilation is. Shalom, y’all! L. Bangs |

The SACD is a hybrid, but the Redbook CD layer does not
contain the '86 remix of "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da" but rather the original version. The '86 remix of that song is only on the SACD layer. |
