Surprised not to find a topic already for this one.

Also surprised to listen the "Vocal / Radio Remix Edit" (which appears to have been side A of the 7" promos and the first track on side B of the 12" promo at the time) and not recognize it at all. Have I just forgotten how it sounded on the radio, 35 years later?

Looking in the database, I also don't see any specification of the LP version which I believe was both the cassingle and commercial 7" single vs. the promo version.

Does anybody remember radio playing this remix instead of the LP version?

You can hear the Vocal / Radio Remix Edit on the following YouTube videos:

The "Nick 7" Mix" sounds nearly if not exactly identical:

Gene - I thought there was a thread talking about the remix, but I can't find it either.

The "Vocal / Radio Remix Edit" got most (all?) of the airplay where I was. (98PXY, Rochester NY) It just sounded better on the air than the LP mix. It's still my go-to version of the song to use on air.

You can identify the remix from the intro (the remix starts with a percussion sound before a downbeat, the LP/45 version starts on the downbeat) and the hi-hat (the remix has lots of 16th notes, the LP/45 version has just 8th notes).

The good news is that the remix is available on two Rhino CDs - MTV The First 1000 Years - Rock and Rhino Instant Party Blow-Out!.
There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.

I agree with Ron's opinion "Vocal / Radio Remix Edit"
sounds much better than the LP version.
At least to my ears the Nick 7" Mix version is identical to
the "Vocal / Radio Remix Edit" and was included in the 30th
anniversary box set of 2017.
