Sad to report the passing of Steve Massie who posted on this board as OldiesLover.

This was mentioned deep inside another thread. As it may be missed I've added this as a separate topic.

Received the sad news late yesterday from Steve's grandson that he had passed away [10/21]
Steve celebrated his 76th birthday on June 7th.

I began my friendship with Steve in the early 80's when he was my regional promotion rep for Mercury Records. We continued to keep in touch often for the past 40+ years until his passing. We often traded music info as he was my personal pop music expert and I answered his country music questions as best I could.

To give Steve his due, here's a brief summary of his career:

Steven Massie began his career in pop radio in the early 1970’s.

He transitioned to the record industry in 1975 as Manager/Local Promotion for the pop divisions of Mercury and RSO in Minneapolis. He was on the RSO team that promoted the Saturday Night Fever and Grease soundtrack albums.

His Country music promotion resume began in 1981 with a four-year stint at Mercury, followed by nine years with CBS /Sony. In 1997 he was appointed National Promotion Director for Almo Sounds, the country record company owned by Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss. Steve also teamed with industry vet Jack Pride for Massie-Pride Promotion, an independent record promotion company.

Steve Massie Productions compiled, produced and remastered dozens of CD’s for Varese Vintage, K-Tel, and TJL Productions (for PBS "My Music" series) The compilations included pop, rock & roll and country releases and featured authentic, original versions of vintage hits. Steve was uncompromising about quality control and always made sure that his audio mastering was clean, distortion-free and never too loud!!!! And that STEREO versions were used whenever possible.

Steve will be remembered for his vast knowledge of pop music from rock & roll through the 1970's. He often shared that info with other reissue producers and contributed frequently to online blogs & message boards including this one

RIP Steve
