For David and Jim-- My copy of "The Horse" states a running time of (2:44) and runs (2:42). This is true of my dj and commercial 45's both of which have a matrix number of J CNO-4N-2. What is the matrix number of the shorter (2:21) version which has a stated time of (2:25)?

Pat, my matrix number is "PH-CNO-4". This exact matrix is also listed directly above the "Time: 2:25" on my commercial 45's label.

My copy is just like Jim's. I cannot tell where it exactly fades out because of excessive noise due to a low quality vinyl pressing but to my ears it sounds like it is over at 2:24. I had a DJ copy of it years ago that I wish i had held on to, it was a 45 I sold on ebay for probably $10, before I knew better...but it's my recollection that it was exactly the same as the stock issue i have or i wouldn't have sold it off.
Live in stereo.

Pat, what label is your 45? I can find only 1972 Jamie 45s with a 2:44 timing,
not the original 1968 Phil-L.A. of Soul.

<Dave> Someone please tell I-Heart Radio that St. Louis is not known as The Loo!

Yes, that CD has the correct 1968 45 running 2:24, but the stereo version
fades earlier than the LP.

That's the CD I found the proper length 2:23 version.
