KENNY G -"Songbird"
I have two kinds of the "Songbird" commercial 45 (ARISTA AS1-9588). (1)/The actual running time 3:36 (Listed Time 3:29) matrix # AS-1-9588-SAS-SP2 (2)/The actual running time 5:00 (Listed Time 3:29) matrix # AS-1-9588-SA-PW1 Please look at the following scan images. (1)3:36 ![]() (2)5:00 ![]() First time I purchased (1). However it was very noisy record with scratches. And I imported again reluctantly from the other online store. Fortunately, I got (2). FWIW, from the typeface differences, it looks like these may have come from different pressing plants. In a previous discussion about Aretha Franklin's "Freeway of Love", it was suggested that 45s with labels that look like #1 may have been pressed by RCA, those with #2 by Specialty (which by this time was owned by Warner Music, but still also did pressing work for outside clients). #1 strikes me as more "typical Arista typeface" from this era, while #2 certainly resembles the typeface used by Specialty for other labels they pressed for.

This seems to be another case of multiple pressings of this 45: I've seen on e-bay that there's also a pressing that carries a 4:51 timing, on Arista 9588, and there's also a 5:00 timing on Arista 9516.
I have a promo that has a 5:00 timing, but I can't play it because it's off-center. I also have a commercial copy of the one pictured above that carries a 3:29 timing. Don't know if there ever was a promo that listed either 3:29 or 4:51. FWIW, the Canadian 45 of this title carried the full 5:00. |

Does anyone know what the (3:59) version is on the "Greatest Hits" CD? I presume it's a "neither" or "faded early," but the database doesn't have a note next to it. "Ultimate" runs (3:54), which also doesn't have a note next to it.

Aaron, The short 45 is an early fade of the Greatest Hits CD. Unfortunately, my GH CD is German pressing. But it runs (3:59). Also, I think that the short 45 is an edit of the full length version.

Thanks to abagon, I was able to hear the actual short vinyl 45 version. He is absolutely correct that "Greatest Hits" is the "45 version but :23 longer." This should probably be noted in the database.

Although the info was already updated. The long 45 is the same as the LP. The short 45 is the edited version of the LP or the long 45. I think that the "short 45 length but :22 longer" comment for Greatest Hits CD is not appropriate.

Abagon you stated above that the short 45 version is just an early fade of the LP appearance so why do you feel the comment "short 45 length but :22 longer" is not appropriate?
