my commercial cd single for the 112 song "only you"
issued as bad boy 79060 contains the below tracks

1-radio mix (4:21 listed; 4:19 actual)
2-clean radio mix (featuring notorious b.i.g.) (4:21
listed; 4:19 actual)
3-instrumental (4:21 listed; 4:17 actual)

the db states that the main single version features the
notorious b.i.g., but that is not the case with the
commercial cd single....pat, where did you get your db
info from, the promo cd single?....i think this entry
needs revision...does anyone remember which version got
most airplay back in mid 1996 when the song peaked at
number 13 on the billboard charts......

None of the top 40 stations in my area played it; I think it was more of an urban hit. The version I remember hearing most often, though, was the Bad Boy Remix feat. Notorious B.I.G. & Mase. I only have the commercial "remix" CD single, so there was obviously more than one commercial single.

I don't remember any of the Top 40 stations in my area playing
"Only You" either. Aaron is correct that this song was primarily an
urban hit and therefore Billboard would have taken into
account which version of the song was receiving the most radio
airplay during its Hot 100 chart run and that likely would
have been the one featuring the Notorious B.I.G. as heard on
urban stations.

In the '90s, many mainstream Top 40 radio stations resisted
playing rap records or any song with rap in it and therefore, in an
effort to generate pop airplay and/or crossover to a pop audience,
urban hits were often serviced to Top 40 stations and/or released
on commercial single in the form of radio edits without rap. I
suspect this may have been the case with 112's "Only You".

The first week this song entered the Billboard top 40 it was credited to simply 112 but in subsequent weeks it was credited to 112 featuring The Notorious BIG.

Although the front cover of the CD single only credits 112, mine came with a little sticker on the wrapper stating "The smash hit debut single 'Only You' featuring The Notorious B.I.G."

Another nuance with this single: as with many of the other Bad Boy
hits, this was followed quickly by a remix single/maxi-single. The
remix had the "Bounce, Skate, Roll" sample and also featured the
Notorious B.I.G. I don't remember whether CHRs played this at the
time, but it became a recurrent/gold cut on some key stations (I seem
to recall Z100 in New York), at least some of which played this remix.

In addition to the commercial CD single Ed lists above, I also have the following two stock CD singles:

Bad Boy 78612-79061-2
1. Radio Mix (listed 4:21; actual 4:19)
2. Clean Radio Mix featuring The Notorious B.I.G. (listed 4:21; actual 4:19)
3. Club Mix featuring The Notorious B.I.G. (listed 4:21; actual 4:19)
4. Instrumental (listed 4:21; actual 4:17)

The above CD single contains the original mix of the song and is the same as Ed's CD single (79060) with the addition of the "Club Mix" which is simply a non censored version.

Bad Boy 78612-79071-2 ("Only You Remix")
1. Club Mix featuring The Notorious B.I.G. (listed 4:21; actual 4:20)
2. Bad Boy Remix featuring The Notorious B.I.G. & Mase (listed & actual 4:51)
3. Slow Remix (listed & actual 4:13)
4. Club Mix Instrumental (listed 4:21; actual 4:17)
5. Bad Boy Remix Instrumental (listed 4:11; actual 4:08)
6. Slow Remix Instrumental (listed & actual 4:53)

I also have two different promo CD singles:

BBPCD-9060
1. Radio Mix (4:21 listed; 4:19 actual)
2. Clean Radio Mix featuring The Notorious B.I.G. (4:21
listed; 4:19 actual)
3. Instrumental (4:21 listed; 4:17 actual)

The above promo CD matches Ed's and my commercial CD single (Bad Boy 79060).

BBPCD-9069
1. Bad Boy Remix featuring The Notorious B.I.G. & Mase (listed & actual 4:51)
2. Bad Boy Remix Instrumental (listed 4:11; actual 4:08)

The tracks on the above promo CD match tracks 2 & 5 from the commercial "remix" CD single, and the vocal remix is censored on both the stock and promo CD singles.

I have the promos Aaron mentions for the 4:18 clean version and the 4:51 remix but both are clean. I recently found the dirty version on CD of the 4:51 remix, it runs at 4:45.

If I play the song, I have the Bad Boy Remix in my library
though it doesn't look like that's what radio played back
in 1996.

The rhythmic CHR and urban stations I remember hearing it on played the Bad Boy Remix.
