My commercial 45 has a listed time of (2:58), but an actual time of (2:52). This version is currently unavailable on a domestic CD, according to the database.

Indeed, Jim, this is a song I've been searching for a while on CD. Has anyone managed to come across "Medicine Man (Part I)" on an import disc?

FYI, Medicine Man Pt.1, Pt.2, and followup single Son Of
A Lovin' Man are all available on CD from Collector's
Choice Music in Illinois. When you go to their website,
just search under Buchanan Brothers in the Artist category. The CD is just under 12 bucks.

Ah, yes... You are correct, Chris. I should've clarified though that I'm looking for the 45 version which doesn't have the ending of another song tracking over the intro like on the LP.

I do have the Dick Bartley Presents Collector's Essentials: The 60's CD (Varese Sarabande 5705). The database indicates that "Medicine Man" on this CD is "neither the 45 or LP version". Does anyone know if this version can be edited down to match the 45? Or can the intro at least be taken off this copy and spliced in place of the segued intro on the LP? I don't have an actual vinyl 45 copy to compare.

Pat:

The database reports the Buchanan Brothers' Medicine Man CD (Collectables 0599) contains the LP version of the title track, but the previous selection tracks over the introduction just like on the vinyl LP. So this makes me wonder... Is the version of "Medicine Man" on Dick Bartley Presents Collector's Essentials: The 60's CD (Varese Sarabande 5705) actually identical to the LP version, minus the previous selection overlapping the song's intro?

Todd, that is my current understanding. There is definitely NO overlap on the Bartley CD's intro of the song. I'd be happy to shoot you out a 45 dub, if you'd like to compare and contrast the 45/CD versions.

Jim:

Yes sir, please send me a 45 dub at your convenience. I'd also like to see if the 45 version can be edited down from the Bartley CD. I'll gladly report back here with my findings!

45 version fades out on pt. 1 and fades back in on part II... the bartley version has the correct intro, but ends cold and had different vocals than the 45... i'm no expert here, but i'd hazard a guess to say the 45 cannot be re-created from bartley... also, 45 on event records, is mono...

Here is an interesting thing I found. Someone on e-Bay is selling "Medicine Man" on a different label (Canadian) and the label says Part 1 is 3:25. The US Event label says 2:58 and has kind of a funny fade. Maybe they let it go longer and faded it during the chorus? Here it is:

Pat:

I was wondering if you could please look into whether the version of "Medicine Man" on Dick Bartley Presents Collector's Essentials: The 60's CD (Varese Sarabande 5705) is identical to the LP version on the Medicine Man CD (Collectables 0599), except for the previous selection overlapping the LP intro? If you're too busy to check into this, I'm wondering if you or another board member would kindly e-mail me a dub of the version on the Medicine Man CD for comparison purposes? Thanks!
