As the database indicates, the original 45 versions of Adam Wade's "Take Good Care Of Her" and "As If I Didn't Know" are not on domestic CD. I have located each of these songs on two different Ace Records compilations. The former tune is on a compilation called "Teenage Crush" and the latter on a compilation entitled "Golden Age Of American Popular Music." I have emailed various folks at Ace to ask if these are the original 45 versions but have not received a response and I'm not buying them unless I confirm that they are. Does anyone know if these Ace compilations contain the originals or, in the alternative, where you can get the originals on an import CD? Thanks much for any insights. Dan

on The Golden Age of American Popular Music, "As If I Didn't Know" is a stereo alternate version. I do not know about the Teenage Crush CD.

On Teenage Crush, "Take Good Care Of Her" is the Stereo LP mix.

Wow, I didn't realize the alternate take of Adam Wade's "Take Good Care of Her" is actually the LP version. The database should probably be updated to reflect this.
For those who don't already know, the 45 version of "Take Good Care of Her" is on tap to make its domestic CD debut next month on the ERIC record label compilation: Hard to Find 45's on CD Volume 10: (1960-1965)! The scheduled release date is April 17. |

I was not aware of the alternate take being the stereo LP version either. Does anyone have the mono LP that you can check to see if that also has the alternate take?

Thanks to everyone for the information and I'm glad to see that Eric is coming out with another one of their great "hard to find 45s" compilations. Dan

The stereo versions for both songs are technically the LP versions, as they were first issued on the lp Adam Wade's Greatest Hits on EPIC, where the other alternate takes showed up for the first time as well. These are all likely from the same sessions as the Coed hits but are not the same takes. Epic wouldn't have had him re-record everything with full orchestras, costing the company lots of extra unnecessary money, if the original multitrack session tapes still existed and could be quickly mixed for a stereo lp. That is basically what I was told from a guy who worked at Epic at the time..he also said that the mono lp very likely used mono fold-downs of the stereo mixes.

Live in stereo.

Adam Wades's Coed hits were re-recorded for Epic. Coed never mixed his singles to stereo. There were two Coed LPs, one of which is stereo. These are available on Collectables as a 2-fer, but the CD contains no hits. Epic never issued any of the original Coed masters, since they don't own them. Post Records owns them.

Thanks, smvceo, for the additional information on Adam Wade. One would think that Post Records would want to release the original Coed hits on its own "greatest hits" CD. It always amazes me when there's a gap in the digital releases of one artist's material when it could be so easily remedied. Fortunately, until that release occurs, I've purchased a mint copy of the Coed 45 of "As If I Didn't Know" through eBay (together with the original picture sleeve.) Dan

I will point out that "As If I Didn't Know" has a bogus edit on the 45. I've got a master "ready-to-go" with the edit repaired that will probably appear on a forthcoming release, although nothing is cast in cement as of this writing.
