My promo 45, exactly the same on both sides, has a listed time of (4:45), but an actual running time of (4:54). Deadwax: 870-402-7-2-59177-EDIT-SP.

I've always wondered if a shorter edit or length of "Love Bites" was serviced to Top 40 radio, Jim, and you've now confirmed that bit of information for me. Thanks!

How about Def Leppard's "Armageddon It"? It runs approximately 5:21 on all commercial releases. I don't seem to remember the song running quite that long when I heard it on Top 40 radio. Do you have a promo 45 or promo CD with a shorter edit or length, Jim?

I knew both sides of my "Armageddon It" promo 45 had the common listed time of (5:21), so I never even bothered to check it. Guess what? Both sides actually have a running time of (4:38)! Got yourself a quality memory, there, Todd! Way to go! My promo's deadwax: 870-692 7-2-59179 REV ES1. If I'd seen that "REV" in the deadwax, it would've "raised the red flag", but I didn't. There are NO indications on the label AT ALL as to any "special" 45 contents.

I've often wondered about these two songs myself, Jim. I wonder if these two edits have ever shown up on commercial releases, as "Hysteria" was found to have two different pressings (both different versions with the wrong printed time).

I'd love to know what was cut to make these shorter versions, if you care to indulge us :)

Do I understand from this discussion that there were dj promos of "Armageddon It" that actually ran (5:21)?

Pat: For as long as I can remember, the ONLY two labels that would usually only send our station just ONE copy of promo 45s were Arista and Mercury. For them, I often had to dig, claw, special-request to the label rep, or even go to Goldmine to obtain even a single copy of a promo 45s from those two companies. Def Leppard was on Mercury. My point: I cannot CONFIRM that an "Armageddon It" actual (5:21) promo 45 exists, because, until yesterday, I thought I had it already. But, with the REV (probably "revised" or "re-release") in my promo's deadwax, and Mercury's "frugality" to radio, my gut says there IS probably an actual (5:21) promo 45 out there somewhere.

I just heard the promo 45 versions of both "Armageddon It" and "Love Bites." On first listen to both, here's what I found:

"Armageddon It" - simply an early fade of the LP
"Love Bites" - snipped off the intro (starts with guitar & drums) & faded early to (4:55).
