I edited an old post today and noticed that the editing box had inserted extra line breaks. Every line break was doubled, and indeed, when I previewed, I saw that it was going to add extra space that wasn't in the original post. I had to manually delete all the extra lines to get it back the way it was.

This was one of the glitches with the 20-year-old version of the forum. The software often inserted unwanted line breaks, especially when you didn't resize the text input box or posted a URL.
I verified that the extra line breaks do not appear when editing posts I've made over the last week or so, but they will reappear when editing older posts. I can ask the developer if anything can be done, but this will really only affect edits made to posts done on the "old" forum version. |

Also, I think some of us already know this, but it's worth mentioning. The developer I hired did not start from scratch on the site. He took the old database code and made a significant number of updates, as well as cleaning it up to match today's web standards. We used the site on a test server for several weeks before officially launching it, and we did our best to catch any errors or bugs we could find. After the official launch, new minor glitches appeared, and I think we've finally resolved most of them. Please do let me know if you spot anything else that isn't working correctly.
As for the forum, my developer has not modified or written any code at all. This is a free software package called Web Wiz Forums developed by a company in the UK. Updating from the 20-year-old version to the latest version did cause several issues, but again, I think most of those have been resolved. Nevertheless, any glitches you find on the forum are things I'll have to report to the developers at Web Wiz. That said, I hesitate to call the extra line breaks in old posts a "glitch," as these were carried over from Web Wiz version 7. We are now using verison 12. |

Thanks for clarifying.
I imagine the old posts can probably be updated en masse with a database search-and-replace to remove the doubled line breaks, but of course that would have to be attempted with great caution so as to not do anything more than that, and to only modify the posts that actually need it, and with an "undo" in case it doesn't go as planned. That’s why I’m a little hesitant to try. It might cause more harm than good, and it seems like the old posts (anything before April 1) are displaying properly until you try to edit them. For as infrequent as we are likely to edit old posts, I think manually deleting the extra line breaks might be the best way to proceed.
