A very knowledgable 45 versions friend of mine has been VEHEMENTLY insisting to me that ALL of the (2:39) to (2:42) CD versions of this are NOT the correct 45 version. Just timed my Musicor 45: listed time (2:24); actual time (2:22). I'll leave it to the "trained ears" to confirm, but the mix sure sounds different to me, not to mention the :17 to :20 shorter run time on the 45.

It took me a while to obtain the 45 rpm of this song but I finally did and here is the skinny. All versions to date on cd in the US are the LP version which is a completely different mix than the 45 version and you will never be able to recreate the 45 by editing the LP version.

The 1967 mono Musicor compilation LP A Quartet of Soul (MM2131) apparently has the 45 mix.
GM UPDATE: The LP cover says the song is 2:24, but I just did a needle drop and the run time is 2:40. So maybe it isn't the single mix after all???? Edited by Gary Mack |

Unfortunately, the Collectables 45 is the LP version.

Not only is there a mix difference between mono and stereo versions, the 45 cuts out a big section of the song found in the stereo mix, so what you hear in the shorter mono version as the song goes into the fade out is not present in the stereo mix at all.
