Both my stock and promo 45s have the time broken down into "Intro" (states :27 on the promo, and :10 on the stock), "Basic Time" (both state 3:01), and "Fade" (both state :07). Adding the three together, the "total" stock 45 time computes to 3:18, and the "total" promo 45 time computes to 3:35. Problem is, neither of these times end up being the CORRECT actual time. The ACTUAL time, for BOTH the stock and the promo 45, is (3:54).

Very timely post (no pun intended)! I was just trying to hunt down a copy of
the wav file to edit to the single. Thanks for confirming that the promo and retail single run times. |

Does anyone know how to create the 3:54 version using the 5:15 LP version? I'd like to give it a shot but I can't find a copy of the 45 to use as a reference. Thanks.

I made the 45 edit from the Here At Last...Bee Gees...Live CD. There are two edits and an early fade.
The 45 starts right on the bass pick-up note (i.e.: no countdown). Counting from that point, remove the segment from the downbeat at 2:59.9 to 3:50.1. The next edit is a little tricky. You'll want to edit on the hi-hat on the half-beat, right before the Gibbs sing "verse" in "at the edge of the unIverse." The edit is from 3:21.8 - 3:48.1 on the 45 (4:12.0 - 4:38.3 on the LP). The lead guitar hits higher notes (up a third) at this point. You'll then start a fairly quick fade around 3:48 on the 45 (4:54 LP). My 45 fades out by 3:53, and was a tick slower (.2%) than the CD version, FWIW. Edited by Plastic Steel |
