the cassingle of this song issued as columbia 74330 contains a non-described version and it runs 4:18.....it is the same as the version from the import cd single with the exception that it fades out quickly from 4:13 to 4:18 while the import cd single fades slowly out to 4:23.............also..........the cassingle version very subtly mutes (edits), during the fade out, mariah saying "thank you" at the 4:15 mark and her laughter at the 4:16 mark.........the question is...do the 2 cd versions in the db that state to have the 45/single version contain these things or are they edited out like the import cd single.............also...........does the commercial 45 contain these or are they edited out there too.........

Ed - the 45 has the same version as the cassette single, which is to say you don't hear her say thank you at the end...

i just asked an ebay seller, who has the promo cd single for sale, and he claims it's the edited version.....i will need to buy it to confirm....before i do that, does anyone have the promo cd single for this song????

Ed, you asked about whether the "thank you" and laughter are edited out of the 2 cd's that state 45 version and the answer is no they are not edited out.

ok, thx for that bit of info...........so those entries should be amended to state neither 45 or lp version.........the only place to find the correct version is on the promo cd single....

You can save your money, Ed. I just checked TM's library, and it's the (4:18) version with no stage banter at the end. It sounds like the correct single version is on the promo CD, as that was likely the source for TM's disc.

This was also commercially reissued as a CD single in the US in the late 1990s, as part of a CD single series called "Platinum Hits," but I didn't buy it, and it's now hard to come by. There's one on Half.com for $2.95, but when you click on it it says "out of stock."
I don't know if it had the exact cassingle edit or not, but it did duplicate the A/B side of the cassingle, in titles, anyway. I remember "Here Comes the Hotstepper" was a part of this late 1990s series, as were several other Mariah titles. But they're all out of print now. |

What's interesting about that is the song was never on a commercial CD single when it was first out. According to Billboard, it was cassette and vinyl only. Just as an aside, I always wondered about '90s singles that were certified gold. Since vinyl sales were minimal, does that mean that most of the sales came from cassette singles? Since gold was 500,000 - that could mean something like 450,000 cassingle sales, and 50,000 on vinyl. Personally, I don't know of anybody who really bought them, and I never see any at record shows (not that I'd really want to, as I'm not really a fan of that format). I still find it surprising that they were as popular as they were. I don't think they stand up over time and probably won't be as long lasting as a vinyl or CD single. |
