Does anyone know what the difference between the 45 and lp version of Stevie Nicks "I Can't Wait"? My 45 is so full of pops and hisses I can't convert this one to cd.

You are correct that the 45 cannot be recreated from any CD. Actually, though, only the first :28 are remixed. The remainder sounds like the same mix to me, although there is an edit after the second chorus that omits most of the "how will we feel 20 years from now" bits. I tried editing the intro from the 45 onto the CD version to recreate the 45, but the sonic differences between the 45 and CD were too obvious. |

Regarding "I Can't Wait" by Stevie Nicks, the database currently states: (dj copies of this 45 run (4:01) the) I'm sure there was a technical error that caused this comment to trail off. I thought I'd bring this to your attention so you can re-type what the rest of the comment is supposed to say. |

The comment should read to the effect that the (4:01) dj copy is called the "soft intro" while the (4:14) version is called the "rock intro".

EDIT: Please disregard the information in this post. It was later discovered (see below) that the record company put the labels on the wrong side of the promo 45. The "Soft Intro" is the 4:01 version with unique audio on the intro. The "Rock Intro" is the 4:14 version that is an edit of the LP version. DISREGARD THIS: I'm looking at the labels of the promo 45, and this information is actually reversed in the database and in Pat's post. The 4:01 version is the "Rock Intro," and it's also labeled as "Edit of LP Version" on the sleeve. The 4:14 version is the "Soft Intro." The sleeve is actually mislabled, though, because the "Soft Intro" is the "Edit of LP Version." Edited by aaronk |

Since I can't seem to find a promo from any sellers online, was the stock 45 the most played version of this song back in the 80's? I can't remember what version we played.

my commercial 45 issued as modern 99565 does not state a version, other than "vocal" but it is identical to the "rock intro" dj 45 version with a run time on the label as 4:01 and does indeed run that length

I'm getting confused on what the "rock intro" version sounds like. I have owned 2 or 3 commercial 45s of this song over the years, and they all begin with a synth intro that consists of the melody of the chorus with no percussion. When the percussion kicks in at :14, there is a spoken line "How will we feel 20 years from now", then "Yes I know you" sung by the backup singers. This intro is unique to the 45; the LP version begins with an acapella "I can't wait" line heavily reverbed and repeated. Does the above describe the "rock intro" version? My copy's matrix is 79 95657 but doesn't indicate a specific version; it just has a notation "* Alternate version of song available on LP "Rock A Little". |
