In the listing for Swingin' Medallions' 'Double Shot (Of My Baby's Love)', the database states 'Both the 45 and some album pressings changed the lyric from "worst hangover" to "worst morning after",' which seems to imply that all 45s have the "worst morning after" lyric. The only two 45s I own, however, both have the "worst hangover" lyric. Both have matrix YW 37924 3.

My commercial 45 (confirmed as Smash 2033, is styrene, with machine-stamped deadwax info of "YW 37924 2") has both a listed & actual time of (2:13). And Paul, like yours, my 45 copy also includes the "worst hangover" lyric. I only post this timing info because the many current database CDs that include this song feature run times that range from (2:10) to (2:19).

my commercial 45 issued as smash 2033 states the run time
on the label as 2:13 and has the etching '37924 4'.....with no YW anywhere in the run-out groove...if you fade the 2:18 version from 2:08 to 2:13, you effectively re-create the true vinyl 45 version.... |

Since Paul C's db quote for this song almost 10 years ago, the first part of
it ("both the 45") has been deleted, and the db now only says "some album pressings changed the lyric to "worst morning after". Well I have just acquired a promo 45 (with 4/66 written in pen, on both sides) for the song that includes the "worst morning after" lyric on both sides of it. What made this one especially difficult for me to obtain is that there is no mention of Smash 2033 anywhere on it. (And while I don't currently own a Smash 2033 promo 45 (and I'm still searching), I suspect it will include the "worst hangover" lyric on it.) I knew that the MercurySmash/Fontana group used non-standard promo 45 number/letter combos much more often than most other major labels between 1965-69, often relegating the primary stock 45 # to small-type, non-bold characters in parens in such cases. The two unique identifiers for this rare promo 45 are the "stock #" of "DJS-11" and the statement just above it, "NEW VERSION". Both sides have identical, machine-stamped deadwax info of "YW 38029 2". Both sides of my DJS-11 promo 45 have a listed time of (2:13) and an actual time of (2:11). Personally, I can neither confirm nor deny that there is an album that includes this "alternate lyrics" version on it, but Pat doesn't usually include such db notes without supporting info, so I assume that is the case here as well. FYI, there are currently no db CDs that feature this alternate lyric version. Edited by jimct |

Don't think I've ever seen a double-A side Mercury- distributed promo prior to '68. Could you post a label scan of this single? Curiously, is that the only lyric change from the more common version? I'm surprised the line about turning tricks got thru. Maybe it didn't mean the same thing back in '66... |

I always thought the line was "turning flips."

Just gave it another listen and I suppose it does sound more like "flips". Funny how something you mis-heard decades ago sticks in your head. |

Do any of the cds that contain a stereo mix
for this song have the 3-track album mix? Where did the 2-track mix originate? Would love to get crapfromthepast to investigate this one... |
