The true 45 version is elusive, and I thought I'd document what I found.
There are a few CDs with the LP version (5:05), and all seem to have the a cappella coda at the end of the song ("Some Like It Hot... Some Like It Hot"). These include Time-Life's Modern Rock 1984-1985 (released 1999), The "A" List Disc 29 (1994) and a few listed in the book. There are a few CDs with the 45 version (3:42), but nearly all are MISSING the a cappella coda! These include Time-Life's Sounds Of The Eighties 1985 (1994) and Time-Life's Guitar Rock The '80s (1995). All of the above run at the correct pitch, or about 125.3 or 125.4 BPM. The 45 is about 0.3% faster than the above CD versions, or about 125.7 or 125.8 BPM. I only have one CD in my collection that has the 45 version with the a cappella coda: After Hours (Silver Eagle/Warner Special Products OPCD-4523, released 1990). This CD runs about 0.4% faster than the 45, or about 126.2 BPM. By the way, my 45 has a sleeve and a custom label. Capitol B-5444. It's listed on the label as "Some Like It Hot (Extended Version)", with no time listed, but it's just the 3:42 version. I think the time may be listed on the promo single, but I don't have that. The B-side, by the way, is listed as "The Heat Is On (Instrumental)", but it's 3:16, and it's a cool edit of backing instrumental tracks, backing vocals, and additional sound effects where the lead vocals were. |
