My commercial 45 (which is mono), and my mono/stereo promo copy for this all have a listed time of (3:29). The actual time for my commercial 45 and the mono side of my promo IS (3:29). But the actual time for the stereo side of the promo is (3:24). Since all 3 "studio version" CDs in the database feature this song in stereo, their timings state either (3:24/3:25), which all appear to mimic the stereo side length of my promo 45. But the commercial 45 was in mono, and is definitely :05 longer than its stereo version counterpart.

I took it upon myself to dig a little deeper into this one... According to my research, Delaney & Bonnie's Top 40 hit "Only You and I Know" came from their 1971 LP Motel Shot. All the songs on that album was recorded in acoustic "MTV Unplugged"-type fashion. As Jim alluded in his post, three of the four CDs in the database contain the studio version. The fourth CD meanwhile appears to contain a different "live" version with Eric Clapton. As a result, I think we may be able to conclude here that none of the CDs currently listed in the database consist of the correct "hit" version. If so, then this should probably be noted. By the way, Jim, does the stereo side of your DJ 45 contain the studio version or the "unplugged" version?

Incidentally, Delaney & Bonnie's Motel Shot album was issued on CD as a Japanese import in 2000 and is still in print. That said, it would appear the "hit" version is available on this CD. The question is, does the LP contain the stereo mix running 3:24? If so, wouldn't we technically have a 45/LP length issue here since the mono commercial 45 runs :05 longer at 3:29?

Todd, my vinyl LP "Motel Shot" does not include "Only You Know And I Know". I pulled out my dj vinyl 45 and compared it to the version on Rhino 70777 and they seem identical to me.

Hi Todd,

I don't get what you're saying...

I thought "Only You Know And I Know" was from the 'D&B Together' lp!

'Motel Shot' had the longer version of "Never Ending Song Of Love".

Well at least in the US.

Andy

Crap... I see I did get "Only You Know and I Know" mixed up with "Never Ending Song of Love". It was the latter hit that appeared on the Motel Shot LP, not the former. As Andrew Chouffi correctly points out, "Only You Know and I Know" first surfaced on the D&B Together LP. Sorry about that, folks. Please disregard everything in my previous post.
