I noticed there are a few database entries that list "neither" for Joe Public "Live And Learn." I believe this (3:53) version is the "Radio Version without Rap." I have a copy of this version, which does run that length.
At the part where the rap would normally be, only the first word "large" is heard, and then it goes into an instrumental section. |

Pat, since I know Aaron is working now, I'll jump in on his behalf with details of my promo CD single; perhaps he may or may not possess a different one:
Joe Public-"Live And Learn" (CSK 4428) 1-Single Edit (listed 3:49; actual 3:48) 2-Radio Version With Rap (listed and actual 3:58) 3-Public Dance Mix (listed 6:14; actual 6:10) |

The version of "Live and Learn" I heard on my local Top 40 station was the "Radio Version Without Rap", so I imagine that version has to be available somewhere on a different promo single release.

Pat:
You may also want to mention in the database that cassette single copies state "Radio Version with Rap" on the cardboard sleeve. |

Jim, thanks for providing the info on your promo CD. Although I don't have a copy of the promo single, it appears there must be more than one, because my TM Century disc has the "Radio Version without Rap" and it does actually run (3:53). So, this is not the same as the "Single Edit" on your promo CD.
To give you a little more info on this edit, the instrumental section starts at (2:42) and goes until (3:07). The background track matches the "with rap" version all the way up to (3:07), where there is one edit. The edit jumps to where the chorus comes back in at (3:16), but of course on the "with rap" version there is rapping over the chorus. Jim, does the "Single Edit" on your promo CD still contain the rap at (2:42) or at some other point in the song? |

Aaron: No rap at the (2:42) mark of my "single edit", and aside from a quick "kickin' it for the public one time" at the (3:00) mark, which is a "stretch" as being catagorized as a brief rap, there is no rap at ALL found on my "single edit."

That's really interesting, Jim. My "without rap" version does not have that line at (3:00), so you must have a completely different "no rap" version.

I just heard Jim's "Single Edit," and this IS a completely different "no rap" edit. The songs are essentially the same up to the 2:42 mark, but then there are some different edits and extra spoken vocals on the "Single Edit" that Jim has.
Also the chorus comes back in at 3:02 on the "Single Edit," while it doesn't come in until 3:07 on the "Radio Version Without Rap." There must be a second promo CD with this version on it. |

I just came across a dj cd single of "Live And Learn" that appears to be the missing dj cd single. This is Columbia CSK 74012 and has 3 tracks:
1. radio version without rap states (3:55) runs (3:54) 2. radio version with rap states (3:58) and runs (3:58) 3. 12" remix states (6:44) and runs (6:44) Edited by Pat Downey |
