Just thought I'd pass along some news for my fellow Top 40 music on CD completists... I just purchased an import compilation by Dennis Coffey and the Detroit Guitar Band called Big City Funk, which was issued several months ago on the Vandi Soul label (catalog #078). I'm certain this officially marks the compact disc debut of Coffey's long elusive #18 Billboard hit "Taurus".
Even though this is a new CD release, it's fairly hard to find and expensive (in other words, you can most likely plan to spend between $20-$25 for a copy). And from a sound quality standpoint, I'm not thrilled about the fact that most tracks on the disc have a muddied high end due to the liberal amount of "no noise" filtering used during the mastering process. Nonetheless, having "Taurus" on a digital format is still a welcome addition to this completist's music library! By the way, I now officially have all but two Top 20 hits from the '70s on CD. The only ones I'm still missing are: Cliff DeYoung - My Sweet Lady The Wing and a Prayer Fife and Drum Corps. - Baby Face Has anyone ever run across either of these songs on some obscure import CD release? FYI: Pat just added a listing for "Taurus" on the recent domestic release Absolutely The Best on the Fuel label.

This is great news, not to mention a domestic CD release that's long overdue! I've listened to the 90 second audio clip sample of the "Taurus" track on I-Tunes and it sounds like a significant sound quality improvement over the Big City Funk import disc. I look forward to picking up the Absolutely the Best CD so that I can get rid of that lousy import!
